Hey all, new member here. Just put in my request for a 2021 pro double cab in lunar rock. I backcountry ski, mountain bike, and camp at hot springs regularly, so I'm trying to build out my dream toy. Planning to put a bed cap on and use it frequently for camping, but also considering a tonneau cover. Better to keep the cap on all the time, or switch between the two? What other accessories should I add? Definitely getting the spray-in bedliner and the remote tailgate lock. Unsure about runners. I'm 5'6" and have no problem jumping in a big truck, but should I consider adding a step or runner to protect the truck and make it easier to climb in? I've got an 85lb unathletic pitbull that I'll have to lift in and out and worry about him catching a paw on a step like the predator, but I've heard some of the solid runners get snow packed in. I live in the mountains, so that's a real issue. Anyone have advice? Also is the protector film worth it? Anything else that is a must have for a brand new truck? New territory for me and I want to protect my investment AND have a sexy beast for all the fun. Thanks!

It looks interesting, but I'm not sure it's that practical for me. I'll want to secure thousands of dollars worth of gear back there, and their photo of "heavy snow" is cute, but we get feet in storms and as a solo female traveler, I like feeling safe in my vehicle. Cool design and probably useful for people that don't use the bed a lot, but I'm getting the DC specifically to build out the back for travel.

Welcome from NC! You will need to definitely invest in some more aggressive tires than what come on these trucks stock. I have the protective film installed from the factory on mine covering the front and it works well.

Think I can get through a winter with the stock? Or should I upgrade to a blizzak or something winter specific and swap the stock to summer? Or just scrap them entirely and go with a better all season?

Just make sure your cap has a flip down front window. It makes it easier to clean the cab rear window and to pass stuff to/from cab .

I am a huge fan of ARE caps and will be looking to invest in one myself when I have the money!
For your application I would definitely get one. As Jim mentioned above make sure you have windows that open so you can access stuff from the side!

Getting blizzaks requires you to dismount and mount tires twice a year, or order a second set of rims. With these trucks you need a TPMS per wheel (unless you like driving around with the light on and don't care to be warned with low pressure). For me, I would prefer to get a nice set of all terrains with a snowflake rating. I run Cooper AT3 4S for that reason. However, if you plan on spending a lot of time in the winter driving on snow, a true set of winter tires starts to make sense. I live in Texas so I feel the snowflake are good enough for me.

I rock snowflakes on a 4wd explorer now with great success. I'm guessing stock won't be snowflake rated. And we get some gnarly roads in Utah. Hopefully she'll be towing a snowmobile this winter, so as big of a pain and financial burden, it might make sense for blizzaks.

    Welcome from Wyoming.

I thought I'd have to replace the stock tires for winter as well, but if you aren't going off road a bunch you can probably use them through the first winter. I did, and I was pleasantly surprised. I make frequent trips down to SLC, so I know your weather. They should handle anything that is on road just fine, but anything more than 8 inches of snow, or drifts may be problematic. Just my $.02 from experience in the area.

Thanks! I do tend to drive more on the bad days, and reliability is important for me (hence a tundra) but I might test my luck. I grew up on ice in New England and rarely get stuck. Toss a shovel in the back and see how I fair in the first big storm I guess. Y'all get much worse wind and drifting in wyo.

Welcome. If you get a set of winter tires, mount them on a cheap set of steel rims from Craigslist. Keep the beautiful pro rims nice and ready for warm months

I fully planned to replace my stock tires, but to save some dollars I opted to see how they performed first. They did well. They will handle anything that ever sees a plow, and loose stuff up to about 8 inches pretty readily. As long as the tires don't need to dig through the snow they have plenty of siping for wet/icy traction.

The stock Bridgestone Dueller HS tires that came on my SR5 were not really good enough for me this past winter and I didn't even leave the city. But I'm not sure which tires the Pro comes with.

As to the cover, I like my canopy (went with a Leer Legend with a sliding and removable front window) because it's waterproof. I have yet to hear of a tonneau cover that keeps the bed perfectly dry. I think it would be more work than it's worth to switch back and forth between the two.
