Well as i stated above 2020 is gonna be an interesting year. Jeep Gladiator is a very appealing truck and getting a lot of attention. Let see how Toyota is going to respond to that. Bed on the FJ??? Here is a Long detailed 17 min video

Nice truck but it's an apples to oranges comparison in my mind. I can only imagine the cost.

I really hope Toyota updates the tundra soon its essentially been the same vehicle for 10+ years with minor changes just hope the reliability doesnt go out the window with any changes they make

Seems like Jeeps are in vogue around here right now. They are everywhere up here. I would guess this new truck will sell good. Since reliability and resale value go hand in hand. They will be cheap to turn into crawlers when the warranty runs out. Peace. D

That jeep on paper is going to be bad ass, straight axle, diesel, 6 speed manual, lockers, sway bar disconnect, 5’ bed. It’s an off-roaders dream truck! But at the end of the day it’s still a jeep but I’m hoping toyota takes note and has a damn good answer for it.

They killed it...they did with the Jeep line what Toyota needs to do with the Tundra...and that is introduce a 3/4 ton diesel Tundra to the lineup.

Did anyone catch that it has a 1600lbs payload...that's more than a Tundra by the way.

I won't sell my pickup to buy this...but I think many folks will buy this instead of a pickup.

I forgot about the payload part but it definitely was a kick in the nuts that it can out do my half ton truck... Jeep did a great job of delivering what their customers wanted

Toyota just needs to bring the Land Cruiser 70series to the US. If it was reasonably price the mid-size truck market would be flipped on its head

I expect it to be just a big of a piece of shit as Jeep's former pickups. It'll sell--for a while, then they'll drop it like they've done with every other past version. Toyota has nothing to worry about, because this'll go after other 'domestic' brands' buyers. Folks don't buy Tundras because they're the latest thing, we buy them because we know they won't crap out every other time we get in them.

As ugly as it they actually did something that toyota has yet to somewhat do and its listen to there customers. As reliable as Toyotas are people dont have have loyalty to certain brands anymore. They trade up to the next big thing. These will sell and the good thing is Toyota and the other brands will have to step up

Jeeps actually have really good resale value. Not because of reliability, but supply and demand - people want used Jeeps for off-roading, beach, etc. I think a year or so ago their depreciation was better than Tacoma and 4Runner. But I agree that typically it goes hand in hand with reliability.

Same in a heart beat! And I think that is the reason Toyota wont. It would cannibalize the tundra and tacoma sales

I reckon they’ll sell well because of the Jeep brand, will have a hefty price tag too. Still it’s a mid sized vehicle. The Tacoma got to step up now

I like it. Give it 2 model years to get the bugs out of it and I may be swayed to move over. Maybe. With a V8.

As a former Jeep owner (CJs and LJs) I believe this is still just an over priced POS. At the end of the day the Chrysler electronics will rear their ugly heads and you will be left with a large paper weight. I think what makes the JEEP stand out is their off road capabilities due to the solid front axle and the ability to remove the doors and roof. You put a solid axle back in a Toyota like they had back in the early 80s and it would be just as capable with way more reliability. Till then, I will find another old CJ and fix it up.

I pulled up next to camo'd test Gladiator a few months ago. Got a first hand view looking down at it. Very cool but it is not a full size truck. Great specs but smaller cab for example. It simply isn't the same. I can't compare the two. Jeep will no doubt sell a lot if them. They will bring a premium price here in Colorado. A great trail truck rig. Much easier to maneuver thru tight spots because it's smaller. The original Gladiators were full size trucks. Not this one.

Im highly surprised the highlander is above the 4runner, but there are a shit ton of both out on the roads that is for sure, also surprised the rav4 isn't on the compact list... I love mine, and going to replace it with the 2019 next year, but i see an epic shit ton of them on the road, and mine is a 2006 and still going strong. wonder what the metrics are for this

The Gladiator is in competition with the Tacoma, not the Tundra.

Payload rating is pretty good. I was impressed...but this also has a 1625 lb payload rating...:D

Yet another vehicle that has more payload than my truck. Grumble.

And previous comments are correct - this is not a full size truck.

Well that Kubota diesel struggles with 100 gallon fuel tank in the bed. It might be rated for it, but it won’t like it or do it for long periods.

Yeah, the achilles heel for the Tundra is definitely not the 5.7. I think that is a struggle for quite a few people - knowing that the engine could/will handle quite a bit more.

I have a 2008 rav4 and one of the best vehicle we have had. I went with the v6. The new 2018 v4 engine was sluggish in my opinion

Exactly.. and lets be honest..its still a jeep...still gonna have jeep problems...
why does everyone want a redesign of the tundra? and I ask from sheer curiosity.. in my opinion the 14 to 17 are the best years. all the tss crap that they are adding is ok but if you plan on changing anything on the truck, its going to only get more expensive and more complicated as they advance. I mean you cant even hardly swap the grille of an 18 without sensor mounts and this and that...technology is all well and good but it also seems to put limitations on what we can do...good for the retail market but terrible for us. again this is in no way a shot at you I just used your particular post to throw my question out there.. 2nd gens were rock solid trucks. and that carried over into the 3rd gen... but theres always a few advancements that come out that need the bugs worked out.. and that's kinda whats happening with the 18s... we will see about the 19s. but im a firm believer ….if it aint broke..dont fix it.

This ugly ass thing won’t put a dent in Tundra sales. A bit of a stretch to think Toyota has to do something to compete with it.
