Hey all, just switched from Chevy to Toyota. I’ve had the Tundra for about 2 and half weeks. When my back window is down my bed makes all sorts of noise going over washboard roads. I’ve skimmed through some forums and have done some of the suggestions that have been mentioned. I’ve dynamated my access panel to rear window and tailgate. I’ve zip tied spare tire chain. Spare tire is tight. Truck is currently at dealer for third time. Truck has 580 miles on it. First Tundra and I’m really starting to regret my switch from Chevy.

Trade it for a new Chevy. Problem solved.

Ive noticed light knocking / clunking sounds driving slow over small bumps with my rear window open , not too concerned at this time , but will follow this thread to see what comes of it .

p.s , I also came from a 2015 gm truck . Trust me , you will not regret the switch to toyota ! . No oil/trans cooler hoses to have to worry about leaking , Tundras transmissions are made by Aisin , they're almost bulletproof . No direct injection to worry about ... I could go on and on all day about how the tundra is far superior in drivetrain reliability compared to any domestic truck .

I like the truck. Just sounds like I’m going to be missing half of it when I get to where I’m going.

My bed liner makes all sorts of rattling noise when I have my rear window down. Not sure if you have one or if it’s a different noise.

Is it the chain under the spare banging around?

EDIT: Never mined. Apparently I don't read.

Sorry you are experiencing this. I haven't had this issue, but seem to remember a thread a week or two back where someone else was. If I recall correctly, in their case, the sound appeared to be coming from the bed but was actually a cable of some sort slapping against the lowered window.

Can you get someone to ride in the back seat and try and listen for the sound when the window is up?

I’ve done all that. Dynamated the rear window access panel and the cord. Spare tire chain is zip tied to wheel.

If all else fails you can probably sell it for more than what you paid!

Maybe in other trucks you just can't hear the bed rattles because the windows don't open? :monocle:

What you’re likely hearing is the back window rattling. It’s common and ok

You guys might be right. It’s my first Tundra, and yes I’ve never had a back window that goes all the way down.

My bed has always made clunky noises. I notice it the most when the windows are down and I go to back up my driveway, when the rear tires come up onto the concrete there's a really noticable clunk.

I've considered chasing down the source, I just never have. If I stand in my bed and jump on one particular spot I can make it do it, I figure it's probably the sorta loose bed bolts like so many seem to get.

Eh, they're great and reliable trucks but they definitely have some noises and quirks.

Make sure the Tie Down Latches are screwed until they Click. I had the same problem.

I took the tie down latches out thinking that’s what was causing the noise. Still have the noise though.

Maybe you could get someone else to drive and you can hop back there. I don't have any noises back there so I'm assuming whatever it is can be fixed or secured

I've seen a scattered few on here have bad body mounts from the factory. If the truck is still at the dealer have them check those out if they haven't already!

I re-torqued the bed bolts, and sprayed the bed to frame mounts with wd40 white lithium grease and that significantly reduced the bed rattling. Still makes some noise but much less now.

I would tighten bed bolts but bolts are sprayed over with line x bed liner dealer installed.

I will try the lithium grease when I get my truck back if they can’t figure it out. Thanks

    It’s not the tailgate latches?

It could be. Noticed that last night. The driver side cable latch is very loose. It could easily be that. Planned on putting some silicone washers in there to see if that helps. Truck is at dealer now when I pick up I’ll mess with the latches.

Sharp razor blade and some patience and you can peel that off the bolt heads. I have factory spray liner too.

i know on my truck the gate will rattle just a little when closed and i walk back there to shake it. The bed cover holds it tight now
