2020 Tundra Platinum: I like to use the remote start feature in the winter when leaving for work at 0445. I understand that when using remote start via key fob (I don't have the ap), the engine shuts off when you unlock the doors. Now, every 10th time or so, when I unlock/open the door, the engine keeps running, however I cannot shift into drive. The brake pedal produces extensive tension, and the truck is non-operational. I can turn it off, BUT, the truck will not turn back on, nor will it allow me to shift to drive and go.

Once I turn off the truck, the brake pedal is locked and it will not start. I have to exit the truck, wail 10-15 minutes, then go back out and unlock, restart the truck (non-remote start).

I have tried everything, this is the only remedy that I can find to the issue. This seems like some type of software glitch? Happens only 5-10% of the time, but it is a total PITA.

24K miles on the truck, I know when I call for warranty, they will not be able to reproduce the issue. Anyone experience this?

    Thanks

Someone else on here recently had the same issue. I'll need to search if I can find it. Can't remember if it was aftermarket interior LEDs or other causes.

This just occurred to me as well - used remote start on my 2020 - went out - opened door - truck did not shut off as usual - went to put in gear and it died. Had to wait 10 minutes for it to be able to manually start it using push button and foot on brake pedal.
This has happened twice - first time was during very cold weather and factory battery was dead - which I swapped out for an Optima Yellow top - and this was last week - Jan 6. Tonight it did it again. Software issue? Someone said it’s a brake switch issue? Doesn’t make any sense but I’m getting pissed off.

I’m sitting in mine dead right this minute with the exact same issue. 2nd time it’s happened. 2020 limited, used the fob for remote start. Anybody find a solution to this yet?

I had the keyless lock issue with LED cargo lights, and swapped them back stock. The only other thing I have LED is reverse light bulbs. I have some baja designs LED lights but they’re wired on their own harness.

Very frustrating in a nearly new Toyota

I would try holding the fob very close to the push button. It may not be recognizing the key.

    Yo
Just saw your post. Mine is totally stock except for lift kit. No additional electronics etc. did this twice - once before battery went dead and once after . Toyota where I live in Canada said to reflash DCM- but my local dealer is going to replace it under warranty to solve the issue. Waiting for new DCM to come in. So far - hasn’t done it again. One thing to note is my range readout shows 900 km range on fill up. Max I ever saw was 650-670 - and lately it’s only really been in town cold winter driving. So something there is messed up too - leading me to believe computer glitch.

    Keep us posted.

Saw from another thread about this that in that case, the truck battery was the issue. in his case, a 24size was installed in the truck from the factory and it should have been a larger, 27 series I think. So, a marginal battery, one low on volts or a bad cell will cause electrical issues in a Tundra, not just related to the starting. Worth a look and maybe a load test of the battery, new or not.

my factory battery sitting on my bench now - is a group 27 size - a 27F - can’t be just a battery issue. May have added to the problem but not the problem.

Subscribing to this thread for future reference. I wonder if this seems isolated to the 2020 for now?

Hello new here but needed to comment. So mine has this issue also with the key fob start, entry while running having to wait till something resets 10 mins or so then will restart. However it also turns on a red lane departure light with an inoperative air bag light while driving (random) I have caught the ign on (not running) but fan and acc on high which caused battery failure. Also the security light seems tied to the key fob start issue. Dealer says they can’t duplicate. If I avoid using the key fob start it works fine but gas glitches noted above.

This happened to me once. It was frustrating for sure. When it didn't restart, I got out and disconnected the battery. This made me late for a meeting, so few expletives later I reconnected the battery cable and I was on my way all normal. This thread came up and I believe someone was saying that it had to do with the remote, remote start and the Toyo app. I don't believe anyone has a definitive answer to date. My truck has less than 18k miles.
