Hello All - New to Tundra Forum - I bought a 2008 Double Cab Limited new then a 2012 Double Cab Limited. I just purchased a 2020 Double Cab Limited and it has a vibration. I made a stink at delivery and the service manager spent some time trying to make me happy. We ended up test driving another brand new Double Cab and it vibrated also. Slight vibration in steering wheel and seat at highway speed. Both trucks had the Michelin LTX 18” tires. Has anyone heard of a design or production issue that would have caused this?

I haven’t heard of this particular issue until now. My Crewmax rides exceptionally smooth. I’m looking forward to hearing other’s chime in.

If you take the batteries out it will stop vibrating.

My 2020 dc came with steel wheels and dueler ht. No vibration. But, only had the wheels and tires for 300 miles.

Tire pressure to high that you can feel the road? Or vibration that something is not balanced?

That isn’t right. Should run smooth as silk. For a quick test, Ask them to swap out the two front tires and rims off another truck on the lot that runs well. It’s also easy to pull the wheel and Rebalance/check the balance? Why didn't they do that? Vibrations in the steering wheel is likely coming from the front. If the seat is vibrating, that seems like a lot to me...
Simplest, most probable cause... It’s tire balancing or wheel related. The hub is on a bearing and spins free of other components, and is very unlikely to contribute to vibration. I would rule out the tires first, then go looking for drive components.
Also out of balance tires will often run seemingly okay at some speeds and not others. (Does it do that?) one bad balance or bad tire will drive you nuts and make you not want drive the truck!

Flat spot on the tire from sitting. I know that happens to my some or my cars that I do not drive.

LOL I grew up in northern Maine and this would happen regularly when it was below Zero... Like today. Car would drive like a wagon on concrete.

At what speed does the vibration occur?

... Yes, they originally checked everything and replaced (1) tire. They said it had "runout" or something. They gave it back to me and said it was "all set". I drove it home and didn't notice any change. If I drive on a regular road at 25 - 45 mph its fine. I get on the on ramp and arounf 60ish I can feel the vibration starting in the steering wheel. I brought it back and they seemed fairly responsive. I took a road test with the shop foreman in the left/high speed lane and it pulled to the left, in the right lane it seemed to pull to the right (???). I didn't notice that because I don't spend a lot of time in the right lanes ;-). He drove and felt the vibration but insisted it wasn't the tires. We went back the dealer and he grabbed another 2020 Double Cab Limited with the TRD package and it seemed to have the same issues. He said he felt it and was gong to enter it in the Toyota database as an issue or what ever their process is. My last (2) Tundras had the Limited package with the 20" wheels and Bridgestone Dueler Alenza tires. This has the 18" wheels with the Michelin tires. I haven't sold my 2012 yet so I have been driving that instead. I cant stand the 2020.

My 19 does this after not driving it for long periods of time. I believe the tires get flat spots. Over time and driving it goes away.

I just drove my truck for the first time yesterday. It sat for over a month while I was out of state and working on the tranny cooler. It vibrates now above 60 mph but I know it will go away after putting miles on it since this has happened to me before.

My 2020 is very smooth at all speeds and I have the 18" rims with Michelin tires. They don't all do that.

Swap the 20" tires/rims from your 2012 and put them on the 2020. I bet your vibration goes away.

My 2020 4X4 CM with AT tires doesn't have any vibration. I do have some road noise but that is normal for AT tires.

Had my tires balanced for a vibration. Road Force Variation on both rear tires was at 48 and 49 pounds. Fronts were 28 and 29. Shake in wheel stopped. Dealer has two new rear tires on order. GoodYear tires.

If there's vibration the first few minutes, it's just flatspotting. If the vibration doesn't go away and is always at a certain speed, 99% of the time it's a balancing issue. And if you feel it in the steering wheel, it's usually one of the front tires. You can try swapping front tires to rear, one at a time to try to isolate which tire is the problem. If that doesn't work, the rear tires might be out of balance too. Then try what @Ruggybuggy said. Swap wheels with your other truck. I bet the vibration goes away. Once you've confirmed it's a balancing issue, take it to a tire shop and have them balanced correctly, most dealerships aren't very good at balancing.

Dealerships now have Road Force Balancers. Discount tire Road Force balances tires too. The tire/wheel Assy may need to be Match mounted.

My 2020 SR5 with 20" wheels had a vibration from 55-70mph....took it back 3 days after purchase....tech said one tire had 7 ounces of lead, one had 5 ounces and the other two had NONE! Took all the lead off and
re-balanced the tires and vibration and steering wheel shake went away!

2020 platinum w/ dueler tires. I have a slight vibration at 30mph, then again at 47-53, and again around 70 ish. I've had all 4 tires road balanced (all under 15 lbs, most 8-10) and still having the issue. Really annoying that a new truck does this. Not sure if the road force is pretty low what the problem could be.

I switched from a 2013 crewmax to a 2017 crewmax and I wouldnt call it a vibration like your describing but I can say with confidence that the steering wheel in my 17 is more sensitive then that of my 13. The 3rd gen drives much smoother and comfortable but the 13 handled roads differently... if i had to put a word to it I would say more sensitive..... couldnt explain why but thats my take on it. Maybe just pawn it off to even though its the same brand and model it just behaves differently then what your use too.

I purchased a 2019 Tundra new last March. I have 26,000 miles on a set of Dueler H/T Tires. They are worn on the outer edge and can not maintain a normal tire pressure. The truck has regular maintenance at the dealership and I have an appointment tomorrow which I am going to discuss my dissatisfaction with the tires. I have spoken to several local mechanics who say this is a common problem with these tires. I suggest you contact the dealership with your complaint. This is my third Toyota and I have never had tire issues like I’m having with these. Hope this helps. UPDATE! While at the dealership I learned not only are the Dueler H/T tires worn—-They are Bald! Only had 26,000 miles from the factory. Bridgestone would not honor replacing them but the dealership gave me a good deal on a set of Yokahama’s.

Tires worn on the outside edge is a indication that the truck should have an alignment.

Only a couple days and few hundred miles on my 20 crewmax but mine is very smooth all the way to 80 mph. It has 20” wheels with Bridgestone tires. I would try to swap wheels/tires from your other truck if possible to see if it goes away.

I had to have three nasty Good Years replaced for way too high Road Force Variation in the egg shaped tires.
