Just bought a 2020 DC with reg bed but it does not have stake holes or the punch outs for them. Are stake holes not on the 2020 DC bed rails?

Ok, looked under truck and up to place inside where rear stake hole would be and it is there under the plastic rail cap. Seems stupid not to have a knockout cap. I need to use the stake hole but will have to try and figure out a way to cut an exact opening in the rail cap.

Interesting that they'd cover them over.

Did you ever figure out how to access the stake holes? Did you cut them out somehow?

I did not want to try and cut them so did not get the tie down cleats I wanted to insert in them. Toyota should make them pop out caps. So no, I did not solve the problem.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I don’t get it either, seems like an easy engineering thought.

My '14 doesn't have the holes either, but it has an outline where the stake holes should be.

I won't pretend that my solution was anything but crude - I used a bamboo backscratcher and a utility knife. The outline for the stake holes IS marked, but it's on the underside of the rail protector. Go figure. I've attached photos of what it looks like and how I used the bamboo (the strongest piece of thin wood that I had so I wouldn't scratch my paint (and, "yeah" for me, I didn't). I thought was I was going to have to use chalk, or something, to dust the underside to get a mark of where I needed to cut, but since I found them, I didn't need to. As a heads up, if you want make the new hole match EXACTLY the stake hold opening, you will to cut well inside the outline because it left about a 1/8th inch gap around the perimeter since the marked hole on the protector is larger than the actual pocket.

I just carefully pried up the protecter. in my case, you can see what the attachments look like, so in order to not break them off, I slid the bamboo in from the side perpendicular to the truck body to compress the expansion fastener to allow me to pop it up. It was a warm day, and I think that made it easier to both pry up and to cut. I needed the holes to mount my old TracRac base rail and system, so they will be covered - that's my excuse for not making it look purty and exact - and I'm sticking with it. :)

so here are my picks. BTW, this is my first Tundra (2020 Dbl Cab Limited), I've had it a day, and I love it already - I retired my F-150 SuperCrew (2007) because it was a rolling rust bucket thanks to New England winters, scuba gear dripping salt water from the bed, and the ocean in general. I'm looking forward to learning from the old hands here about my new Truck. My level of knowledge is that if I get a flat tire, I run around in a panic yelling "check the oil, check the oil!" :)

    Regards

Gatortag - Thanks for the advice! I too, have a 2020 w/o the knockouts.. I also live in New England & just got rid of a 2003 Chevy Rustarado.... Great engine/transmission, but the body was costing fortune in repairs... LOVE the Tundra!

I did similar to @Gatortag the other weekend. The bed rail caps come off pretty easily except for the last clip (closest to the bed)

I really don't understand why Toyota removed the knockouts or didn't at least keep the outlines on the top of the rail.

Damn, I have a '21 with no stake hole pocket cutout but I also already have a rail system on the bed for my cover.

I'm looking to install 4 bull rings. In my last Tundra I could simply drill a hole in the middle of the cutout and router out the space for the ring.

Would anyone be willing to measure the approximate locations of the stake hole pockets for me? I figure that a good measurement would get me close enough to the center of the hole to drill and then let the router do the rest of the work. Otherwise, removing the cover rails and the bed rails sounds like too big of a job. lol.

    Thanks.

Thanks Gatortag - you solved my problem on locations of stake pockets - appreciate the photos. I have tried Toyota help on line, CEO Toyota North America and even President of Toyota in Japan after no results from my dealer. North America office says the vehicle meets specs and any modifications are the responsibility of the owner ? Why the hassle and why are the pockets marked underneath - one might assume they just screwed up and gave the subcontractor the wrong info and do not want to own up to it - might save face but it is not a good move.

Just lift up on the cap and take a look, you can't miss seeing the location. Drill, utility knife, 10 minutes. Done. Used expandable rubber stake pocket anchoring points to secure my custom bed rails and headache rack without making any holes in the truck body. Added a stainless steel nut below the anchor plates to add threads and used stainless steel bolts. Nice and solid.

What? Take a Dremel and cut out the plastic...no need to remove anything, no need to contact Toyota Corporate offices.

Here as promised is how to locate the stake pockets on the 2021 Tundra SR5 without having to remove the existing black composition (plastic?) bed rail cover and risk breaking the hold down pins.
For the forward hole, measure 5" back from the lower center edge of the black bed rail cover. Measure in 2 1/2" from the lower outer edge of the black bed rail. Where these two lines cross is the approximate center of the forward hole.
For the rearward hole, measure 71" back from the lower center edge of the black bed rail cover. Measure in 13/8" in from the lower outer edge of the black bed rail. Again, Where these two lines cross is the approximate center of the forward hole.

Same measurements apply to either side of the vehicle. At the approximate center line intersections drill a 3/4" hole with a spade bit and you will be able to feel and see the actual outline of the stake pocket hole. Cut out the hole with a box cutter.

Incidentally, there is not "stake pocket " in the traditional sense. One would expect a stake pocket to have a bottom and side retaining straps to hold a stake in place and thus prevent a stake from dropping to the bottom of the fender or limit lateral movement. This vehicle has neither. If you put a lag bolt in the four holes in the body side panel that is all that will hold a stake in place. As it turns out it must have been planned that way since the bolt holds are in fact the center line of the stake pocket opening.
    Hope this helps someone else.

This thread was helpful as I’ve been looking at installing a back rack open style to my 2021 Tundra. Has anyone installed a back rack on their Tundra?

Having the same issue with my '20 Tundra Crew Cab. Looking for someone who has actually installed the BullRing tie downs or if someone knows if the stake pocket is the same size as previous years. I am thinking that the only reason BullRing says their product won't fit the '20 is because the bed rail cover does not have markings or cut outs?

Really? My 2016 DC has pop-outs.

Edit: Weird that all wouldn't have the pop-outs. Maybe it's trim or package dependent. I have TRD package, so maybe that's it?

Does anyone know if there is a stake pocket cut out a template I can clamp on top to make a clean cut?
