I read that the 2020 Tundra was one of the worst.
Is it just because of the
    gas mileage?

Seems like it would be a little early in the game to make that call in my opinion.

A Car and Driver review. I haven’t had any troubles other than how thirsty it is. But I don’t work much these days so commutes are few.

Actually, here is a video showing that the year 2020, is officially the worst year.

Car and driver said the same thing for the Tundra over and over. Gas mileage and outdated.

I know this isn't you saying it, but I laugh at these big name publications talk about the obvious. Like the age of the truck and it's gas mileage...

That is like getting a Honda Fit and complaining about it being small, or a Prius and saying it isn't sporty..

Just my worthless opinion, but if you are buying a truck, you are doing it for other reasons than looking for fuel economy, and in all reality, the fuel mileage isn't THAT far off the others. My 2019 platinum averages about 15.5 for the tank.
Say that is 3 mpg off the others. Over 30 gallons, that is 90 miles. Which equates to roughly 6 gallons of gas per tank. For me, because that is all that matters in this world, that is roughly $20/tank. I fill up about every 12 days, so about $60/mo, just to make the numbers nice and round..

Yeah, I'd say it is worth it lol.

I agree 100%. I went with what was proven in a market that doesnt give many options for those who arent seeking all the creature comforts, that in my experience, seem to be the first things that go.

I’m pretty sure the 2015 tundra is the only year with no recalls and no tsb’s. Also it’s pretty well documented that all tundra years beat the big 3 in almost all categories for almost all years; Ford excelled in some collision safety testing recently and of course the tundra has a bit less glitzy technology gizmos.

2020 was clearly a bad year period.

Not sure what this has to do with Trucks though?

There would be no reason for car/truck magazines, TV shows and youtube bloggers to exist if "new" products were not rolled out. Bad reviews force companies to roll out new products so the car/truck magazines, TV shows and youtube bloggers can stay employed. Click bait makes bank.

Car and Driver…makes sense. They are similar to Consumer Reports. The have almost nothing good to say about any vehicle Toyota have produced especially the trucks.

Consumer Reports annual auto issue has the 2020 Tundra rated better than the big three. If just looking at the overall reliability ratings for 2020, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 both get the same "much worse than average" rating. Ford F150 also gets the "much worse than average" rating, and the Ram 1500 has a "average" reliability rating.

The Tundra gets "much better than average" rating for overall reliability, in fact of the 17 trouble spots Consumer Reports gives a rating on all but one are rated "much better than average". The "Paint/Trim" spot gets a "worse than average" rating.

I have had no problems with my 2020, did have the recall for the front turn signal wiring but other than that nothing. I couldn't be happier with my truck. Well maybe 20mpg would make me smile.

Weren’t most, or at least half, of 2020 trucks actually built pre-CoVid? When does production begin on 2021 models?
I have a 2020, but it was built end of 2019.

Watch the review videos they put out on the Tundras and Tacoma. Completely different story than they portray in those rates you speak of. I agree those charts makes the Tundra look better than them all.

I thought the 2nd gen Tacoma was particularly bad…

I had a good friend that worked for them who had much contact with those reviewers. And I would tell him to ask these guys on my behalf why all the hate when it was best selling mid-size pickup at the time?

And listen I agreed with some of their statements such as the rougher ride but the Ranger and Colorado at time only rode marginally better which may even be a stretch. Meaning there are certain characteristics that are consistent amongst vehicle types regardless of manufacturer.

**EDIT** @Eaganite I don’t mean to take digs at ya…my apologies if it’s perceived that way.

I own a 2020 but it was built in February 2020. I had one sensor go wonky; replaced under warranty. Other than that, it's been rock solid.

Yeah I got mine in beginning Oct 2019 and production date of mid Sept 2019. I haven't had a single issue with mine, one recall for the front turn signal wiring and mine must have been built after they switched over to the newer fuel pump because I haven't gotten a notice or anything for getting that replaced. It's been a solid vehicle for 2 years and 40k miles and i'm looking forward to seeing how long it can last doing the maintenance on time.

All those consumer reports and car and driver articles about the tundra are dogshit articles writen by people who drive the truck for a couple days. Sure it's outdated compared to the big 3 and gets SLIGHTLY worse gas mileage, but who cares. I'd like to see these assclowns drive each truck for an actual 5 year period, hell i'd even settle for 1 year and see what they think after that.

They're gonna shit on the 2022 tundra too, i guarantee it. They'll say the "finally caught up" with the big 3 after 14 years of doing nothing and that in no time it will be outdated again.

You can bet heavy odds that Car and Driver like most of the commercialized review sources are heavily subsidized (diplomatic term for bribery) by the Domestic car manufacturers. Just like 99% of the info from whatever source, all you have to do is follow the money. One of the few Universal truths in this life besides death, taxes and corporate global corruption.

My understanding is that the ratings given in the magazine are derived from members who own the various vehicles and there experiences with them, and not from the Consumer Reports reviewers.

No offense taken and no apologies needed.

Car and Driver only cares about the stupid fancy features that soccer dads think a truck "needs" and, other than the occasional long term test, don't have the ability to talk about reliability.

It's funny all the hate in the media for the 2.5 gen Tundra. Whenever I talk to real truck guys (including at least one die hard GM fan), they all say the 2/2.5 gen Tundra is the only modern truck they would buy.

2020 was a bad year for the Tundra if you wanted a CD player in it. Other than that, it's the same as previous years.

In other words, a good truck and who cares what GM/Ford/Dodge told Car and Driver to promote.

I also think car journalists become delusional due to their day to day activities, it's hard to think from normal people's point of view when every other day you are either driving a hellcat/GT500 to a Raptor, look at how many of us here used to own other brands of vehicles/trucks and still do, but we like these things.

Apparently a recall of 158,000+ Tundras is coming for 2018-2021's. Owners are supposed to be notified starting in November. Has to do the with the low and high beam connections in the headlights that can be a fire hazard. Apparently if it faults, the low and high beams come on at the same time and cause overheating at the connection.

From what I’ve heard and read it’s only for vehicles in that year range with halogen headlights, not LEDs, but I could be mistaken.
