Some new 3D renderings for a 2019 Tundra Dually concept we’re just released. This build is being done by Complete Customs in McKinney, TX for ToyotaUSA. I definitely think this builds need tow mirrors and roof mounted lights to make it looks proportionate. What’s your thoughts on this concept design?

    Function before sparkle.
Personal opinion, but I looks like a light duty pickup with dual rear wheels. It needs additional queues to indicate it’s ready for payload and towing. Like, for example, a trailer hitch.

As mentioned it needs amber LED's on the roof, tow mirrors, and a trailer hitch. Whoever made this image isn't a truck person.

    Rims are pretty lame also.

Since these are just renderings for Toyota prior to the actual concept build. My guess is Toyota is testing to see how much interest there is for a Toyota Dually truck. I would think if there is enough interest in the market place then Toyota wouid move to an Engineering and design phase afterwards.

I actually like the lame rims. Lol. Those are a ten lug rim conversion that allow a semi size tire on them.

Just my thoughts because the concept will never see the day by Toyota. Now if someone had the spare crazy $$$$ why not swap in a diesel and make it real???

In a perfect world I would love to see a Cummins diesel and Allison transmission but I’ve always been a big dreamer. So back to reality.

Dodge really F’d up on that one. They decided to go with the in house transmission 47/48RE and could have went with the Allison. I’m sure that was a regrettable decision.

Unless you're hauling a fifth wheel over 12 to 15k plus in weight on a regular basis what's the point? It fixes a problem that is few and fewer in-between. The 1 ton rated trucks have greater trailering capacity than their dually counterparts because of the extra weight. What percentage of people would even begin to utilize and pay for this specific luxury is so minute it makes no sense for Toyota to even consider funding it IMO.

Myself and about ten members on this site alone in 2018 switched to a larger platform, in a diesel flavor. (I did in 16’)

I am almost certain we have plenty of members in the towing section that should have a bigger truck.

I don't doubt that is true but put that into actual overall total numbers into what it would take to make it profitable is another issue. Not saying it wouldn't have its place.

In the past few years, I have seen a lot of gas powered dually trucks. They need capacity and don’t tow big loads like a 40’ 5ver.

I think it’s more of marketing plan from Toyota to test the waters on the level of interest. I don’t know if would ever happen but maybe if there is enough interest in a Toyota Dually, then who knows. But there isn’t really other option for a heavy duty pickup other than the Ford, Chevy, GMC and Dodge.

At some point I would like to go with a rig for a big 5th wheel and will mourn the inability for a Toyota to fill that need when the time comes. I just am aware of the pragmatic possibilities of that happening are slight.

It’s hardly ever profitable. This is where a diesel is for certain people that can afford to work it every day or keep it in a garage and use when necessary. I’m the latter.

People that DD diesels are kicking themselves directly in the uprights.

It's also continually aggravating the upcharge of diesel fuel compared to gas. Along with all the modifications they have had to make it emissions compliant it's an expensive proposition for consumption and engine maintenance which is why unless you actually need a towing brute it doesn't make sense. There is also a reason why you don't see off roaders using diesel because of the power to weight ratio. I have recently seen where people are getting 450 and 550 pickup trucks or cabs instead of dually as well.
