Hey All, I am currently trying to upgrade my terrible JBL system... I just received the Rockford Fosgate DSR1 and need help on choosing the remaining components.Keeping the stock head unit. My main hurdle is figuring out what amp to go with. At a minimum I want to do a 10” JL Sub but am considering 2 10’s or possibly a 12” I do not want overwhelming bass but a good all around sound with some punch. I at a later point plan on changing out door speakers and tweets but not on the list right now. I just want them to have some more power for now. I’m not looking to splurge on a stereo so I have to keep it fairly simple and on the cheaper side of things. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

You are on the right track! Dsr1 is a great option for those with jbl that want to keep the factory head unit.

Start looking at 5channel amps. Something 75x4 +500x1.
As far as door speakers, you really depends on your budget. I have jl c5-650 up front and they are amazing, but pricey.

I would send James at tech12volt (he's a vendor here) and let him know what you are trying to accomplish. He has great prices and even better customer service.

Per the advice of so many, I am currently working w James on building up my system as well. He seemed very well versed on the best way to attack this common issue.
    Give him a holler.

I did 4 Kicker amps under the back seat, 2,800 watts total. A pair of Kicker 10’s behind the seat, Kicker components in the doors, Kicker 3.5” in the dash and new speaker wire ran individually to each speaker (even the tweeters). I also did the Rockford processor. It rocks even if I say so myself.

    Dang. Baller!

I always wondered how you get signal for more than 2 amps if they don't have a pass thru.

I just recently upgraded my system, keeping the head unit and door speakers.

with a Kenwood X801-5, 5 channel amp and a AudioControl LC7i line out converter
and a rockford fosgate 12 inch sub. Even with the factory speakers this things sounds
amazing. Prolly will upgrade the speakers at some point.

I did not. I used the Audiocontrol lc7i. Does the same as DSR1 basically from what I've read.
