Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Well, Chevrolet has announced some news regarding their 2019 Silverados. As far as styling goes, I do not think it is too bad but it could definitely be better. The grille's front looks too large, like it extends close to the ground, might be that plastic shrowd thing. The front fenders also look like they are missing something.

However I am quite excited to hear about the stats behind the 3.0 Duramax Diesel.

    http://autoweek.com/article/trucks/detroit-trucks

For the 2018 F150, ford will add the 3.0 Powerstroke diesel to their engine lineup. It will make 250 HP and 440 Lb-Ft of Torque. It is also expected to achieve over 30 MPG highway, that would be impressive.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/news/2018-ford-f-150-diesel-full-details-news

The 2019 Ford Ranger news is underwhelming. I was hoping they would put the 2.7l Ecoboost motor, they use in the F150 in it, they chose to go with the 2.3l Ecoboost as the only engine choice. They likely did not want to take sales away from their "best selling" F150.

I hope Toyota has something revolutionary planned out for the new model year or they are going to fall seriously behind. They need to offer a different powertrain line-up which offers more attractive fuel economy as well as HP/TQ figures. The current 5.7l offers decent power figures but abysmal fuel economy.

Do not get me wrong I like the Tundra but when I can get 2x better gas mileage from another truck and more payload capacity, it is a no-brainer for me.

If Toyota does not step up their game on the next generation of Tundras, I might be forced to trade-in my truck for a different manufacturer, when the time comes around in a few years.

What do you all think? Is Toyota slowly falling behind in the truck market? I think so, just look at the new Tacomas, the 3.5l Atkinson motor is not that impressive...

This post is not to bash Toyota but to explore what we think of the competition and perhaps offer insight as to why Toyota is or is not still competitive.

I am not a fan of the perfectly round wheel wells. Ford has been doing it and now Chevy. The rest of the trucks look pretty good to me and they are doing amazing things as far as power plants go. I still wouldn't buy one with a newer style or turbo engine because it rather have a tested and reliable engine.

Toyota falling behind in the truck market? Nope. A good example or pulse is to take a look at what a used Tundra sells for. Toyota knows exactly what they are doing...marketing new and used truck and car reliability.

I have owned Toyota trucks since my first new one in 1989 which was a Silver 4x4 xtracab, a great totally reliable truck. Every Toyota I have owned since then has been reliable and never left me stranded or with any huge repair costs. Just routine maintenance that is it. Most long time owners on here will likely agree.

So from my point of view as a long time Toyota truck owner reliability being on my super short list of have to haves, Toyota has been a win every time in my experience.

I feel sure the new 2019 Tundra will be a great truck as well. Cant wait to see it!

In terms of volume, Yota will never beat the big 3. But agree with reliability; Yota #1 as shown on resale values.

I will never trade my great reliability, for damn gas mileage. If you want fuel mileage, buy a damn Prius, or smart car.

That silverado and ranger are starting to look more and more like a toyota or nissan... puffed up, bubbly and rounded looking...too futuristic.
The ram looks the best to me.

I couldn’t give a damn less about mileage. Pre-lift and tires I was getting 16.5-19 mpg on the highway, post lift I’m getting 12.2 to around 14. I’m just fine with those numbers. And I haven’t heard many people that carry a lot of gear complain about cargo capacity. It’s a half ton pickup, it’s not supposed to have the ability to carry 2-3k of weight like a HD diesel.

Careful what you wish for. Everyone is concerned about gas mileage, with that, the V8 will disappear before too long. I hope not. If Toyota scale down engine size in search of better mpg then we all lose. Unfortunately that’s the way it could be going in the future

Will make ours worth more for sure. So we better install alarms and get the club before they start stealing 'em.

They can shove all these 30mpg vehicles up there ass. V8 all the way. I'd say most of us, paid 35k + for their truck. I'm pretty sure we can all afford gas.:burnrubber:

Being able to do, vs actually doing seem very different in the truck market.
Many big numbers in commercials, and then the asterisk appears to clarify that those numbers are on specific models and not the most sold units, also they are at highest point and cannot be run continuously without your truck having issue.

So I don't put any thought on advertised figures when they are so convoluted.

As mentioned above, the pre-owned/used market is the best test and show of what actual quality is there in the vehicle/truck.

I would sure enjoy better mileage, but I more so enjoy that I don't have to worry about going to a service centre often to have things replaced or that it will be worthless in a few years because they constantly blow out new model prices to where it devalues what I have beyond what it should be. Pay slightly more in fuel for year, but save more in resale return and lower maintenance costs. That's the true win there.

Oh also to end my rant,... I would love more features, but as long as they actually work. Fancy toys that quit after months or a year are more frustrating than having never been there to begin with.

Reliability and durability are 2 of the main reasons i bought my Tundra. I have owned a Silverado and a Ford Expedition. Only thing I loved on my Chevy is that it was a manual....the Ford....i could have lived happily without it. Neither of them met my expectations like my old 1987 Toyota SR5 did. Sad that my truck I bought with 100k+ miles on it, that was already 12yo when i got it, was better all the way around than either of my brand new vehicles I owned. I'll take my low gas miles, hardly any upgraded gadgets, very reliable and very durable Tundra, than a truck with high MPG, tons of "cool gadgets", unknown reliability and durability. I'll get more out of what I pay for with my Tundra than one of those any day.

All those high end gadgets and high mpg, don't do you any good while the truck is at the dealership getting something fixed every other month.

Honestly, I truly don't. I'm just a simple country boy. Not saying other people feel the way I do. I bought a SR5, not because that's the model I could afford, but because that's the truck I wanted.

At least there won't be any spark plug issues with the Ford Diesel. Unless, of course, the glow plugs start blowing out of the engine, or snapping off when the need to be de-coked.

I wish I was more simple when it comes to electronics. Everyone complains about how expensive trucks are these days (including myself),

You actually could probably get a really good deal on something like a Tundra SR or an F150 XL if all you need is something to tow with and haul crap with. People like me get so used to all the "luxuries" and it's hard to imagine a vehicle without them now...

Ultimately a reliable power plant is most important to me, which is why I just bought a Tundra, but it sure would be nice to get some bonuses in the technology department.

Toyota always plays it safe. Low key with their trucks. I never want to get rid of my Tundra for a newer one because of all these nannies and safety crap they are putting in them.

I am pretty sure if Toyota decided to do the Turbo V6 option you can guarantee it would be very reliable unlike Ford.

All that tech doesn’t come cheap. R&D and manufacturing, hence why the prices are so high these days
