    Hello!

First time posting as I have a question that I haven’t been able to get a straight answer on. I purchased my 2019 1794 used and it had a Westin rear bumper on it with a hidden (behind the license plate) receiver hitch. I want to get the truck back to a factory rear bumper, but also need to retain the ability to tow. I found a used rear bumper to install, but realized after the fact that the (painted plastic) bumper is supported by the Factory trailer hitch/bumper support assembly.

I’ve been searching high and wide to find a trailer hitch off of a wrecked truck, but I’m cheap and people are asking, what I feel is an exorbitant amount of money, for a Used factory hitch (usually in the $900-1200 range. All of the wrecking yards I’ve called seem to have the 2014-2017 trucks listed as one rear bumper support, and the the 2017-current trucks listed as a different item, and to the knowledge of most the wrecking yard sales people these rear bumper supports don’t interchange. I understand that these guys are selling parts from all makes and models and don’t know the ins and outs of these trucks intimately, but I would like to know with certainty that the rear bumper support from a 2014 truck for example, would fit on my 2019. Can some please help!? Possibly someone that has access to Toyota parts catalogs that could confirm the part numbers to be the same? If I’m paying $300 to have a hitch shipped across the country, I would like to know that it’s going to fit when it gets here. Thank you for your time and any information you may have!

I’m in Oregon, do you have one off of your personal rig? Or do you have a line on one?

I am pretty sure, that the frame has not changed from 2014 to 2021. Potentially, differences do exist between double cab and crew cab models, but unlikely. I understand your dilemma, but you might have to wait for one to become available in your area so you can get eyes on it

My only issue is my truck doesn’t have one currently, so I’m not sure what the potential differences would be (if there were any) between the 2. The only thing I would imagine is the bumper mounting might be different.

Your truck will have the number 12, circled in red on it. OEM list is $ 1671.72
The item in yellow is for 17 and under trucks without factory tow option, hence the full bumper assy replacement you are being offered when searching for a used one.

yes these hitches are stupid expensive. My guess is some of the cost comes from how they are shipped around.

They are surprisingly heavy, I have the blood blister to show for it.

If you do find one, please use 2 people to remove the old one and install a new one. I did not and paid for it in a few different ways.

The bolt up compatibility is not likely to be any issue. The concern I would have is whether your truck was manufactured and sold with the “towing” package. This would include wiring harness plug, integrated brake controller, and some other stuff.

Thank you! Does the pre-2017 truck share the same trailer hitch assembly part number?

Yes, I agree, I believe the way it mounts to the frame should be the same. My only concern is how the bumper is attached to it. My truck was equipped with a tow package, it does have a built in trailer brake controller

Is anyone able to help me with this? Trying to figure out if the rear bumper support/trailer hitch for the 2019 tundra (should be I believe P/N: 51908-0C041) which should fit 2017-2021 tundras, is the same part number for 2013-2017 tundras. I’m trying to find a used one, and this would greatly open up the amount of used parts available. Thank you!

Yes that is the part number for the rear hitch assy, and will cover from all years mentioned

Maybe get the Curt hitch and keep the better Westin bumper? Just a thought, I can confirm the Curt hitch is a super well made HD unit. Not sure how it would work with your Westin bumper though. The factory Toyota bumper is simply garbage IMO, more of a trim piece, not stout enough to bump anything more than a shopping cart or tricycle.
