Hey y’all. So I have the factory LED headlights, and I just noticed that when my lights are in the AUTO position, the LED daytime running lights are not on. When I turn the headlights on, the DRL comes on, but it’s extremely dim. I checked under the hood, and the 7.5A fuse labeled “LED DRL” is fine. I don’t know of other fuses to check, but I noticed there is a light blue relay labeled “DRL”. Do y’all think it could be this relay? If so, forgive my ignorance, but do relays pretty much just pull out with a set of pliers, and I can just buy a replacement at an auto parts store? Any way to diagnose a relay before replacing it? Thanks in advance with any comments!

I believe they are designed that way - the DRL goes dim when the headlights are on to minimize blinding the oncoming traffic.

Pretty sure they stay the same level of brightness whether the headlights are on or off. Plus, when your lights are on AUTO, the DRLs are supposed to be on, but they are not.

I upgraded the headlamps of my 2014 to LED and the DRLs goes dim whenever I switch the headlights on. Im sure @iHacker can pitch in and share some knowledge.

They should definitely be ON during the day with the switch in the Auto position.

There is something wrong with the wiring, the switch, the fuse, or the relay.

What happens when you only switch on the DRL’s?

They should be on during the day yes, but they are 100% supposed to dim when your headlights come on

I’m going to try and replace the relay and see what happens. Will report back this weekend. Doubtful it’s the wiring as it came from the factory with the LED headlights and DRLs, but stranger things have happened. It wasn’t the 7.5A DRL fuse, so I’m really hoping it’s the relay.

Shouldn't this be under warranty if you have a 2018?? Id let the dealer mess with it before you start throwing parts at it.

    Yep.
Yes, it's under warranty, but I have a couple of after-market LED and amp fuse boxes sitting beside and on top of my factory fuse box, and I really don't want to hear any crap from the dealership about not being able to replace the relay (if that's the problem) because the after-market fuse boxes are "in the way". Plus I live far from the dealership, and my next service isn't for a couple of months, so I'll just do it myself. If it doesn't work, I'll then warranty-claim it.

Didn't know we had auto HLs. Must be a 2018-up deal.

There is a thread mod on here about adding this feature. I think it involves replacing the turn signal stalk and a sensor under your center dash

Are you checking this with your emergency brake on. Might want to release it and test.

Isn’t there a setting in the head unit that the DRL can be toggled off? Pretty sure I remember skimming through the settings in mine and seeing that. Just throwing that out there so you can check it out.

Hope this doesn't send you into cardiac arrest, but I also have a little dial on the dash and I can change the up and down aim of the headlights depending on if I am carrying a heavy load.

I believe it is part of the 2018 SR5 upgrade package. I’ll check and report back.

On my 18, auto high/low came standard as a safety feature. The LED headlights were actually part of the TRD Off-road package:

This was suggested in another post, tried it, no joy.
@cornwall325 I need to know your address so I can come KISS YOU!! Problem solved! I have an Android head unit, and I must've accidentally pushed the OFF option for the DRL. Right as rain! My impatient ass was just about to go to the auto parts store and buy a relay! THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!!

Not a problem at all man. I’m just glad this helped you out. I’m still learning about mine. What I love about this site is that everyone doesn’t mind to lend a helping hand to others. I dunno about a kiss but I could go for a set of sliders, color matched grill surround, and a bunch of other stuff. Just messing with you...glad you got it all squared away.
