I have a 2020 SR5 doublecab with halogen headlights, lower white LED Strip DRLs. Just received a recall notice that when running high beams the headlight harness could over heat. I think the issue is when you switch from lo to hi beams, the lo beams stay on along with the hi beams. My question is, do the 2019 TRD Pro LED headlights & the ihacker harness work with this 2020 SR5 (and possibly other years and models) issue? If I have the recall performed will the 2019 TRD Pro LED headlights & the ihacker harness still work? FYI, as of now toyota has not determined the fix. Thanks in advance for your help.

 

The problem involves only the trucks with halogen bulbs nothing mentioned yet for models with LED headlights, the LED headlights use less power/amps so no issues reported on this issue.

My recommendation is to get the recall completed before upgrading your headlights

If the 2020 halogen headlight problem is both hi and lo beams are on at the same time, which portions of the 2019+ TRD Pro LED headlights, using your Ihacker harness (not sure which harness would be the correct harness), would be illuminated?

With the LED headlights both parts are illuminated when high beam is powered but not a problem because the voltage draw is minimal compared to the H4 halogen bulb.

If you mentioned a fix isn’t yet available from Toyota for this recall you better wait who knows you might get a LED headlights upgrade to solve the issue

 

Ihacker, thanks again for the quick response. I never even entertained the idea that Toyota might fix the problem by upgrading the halogens to LEDs. That would be awesome if they did.

 

Is hard to think about it but if it’s taking longer to get a fix who knows maybe this are one of the few options they are considering

Very well made. If I did it again, I might T-tap the amber lamp first and then see which way I like it better.

Either option is ok for an aftermarket package, I installed AUER products in the past and they offer a good quality products that’s why is the aftermarket choice for many dealerships nationwide, the other link is for the Valeo fogs and they are a good option as well.
