How bad is not doing the dimmer option? Will I be getting headlights flashing from oncoming traffic?

    Hello,

As @dandailey mentioned there’s not need to go through firewall grommet if you don’t want full functionality of this headlights, the harness sold by HR don’t include the LED DRL dimming option, their installation video is applicable only for Platinum or 1794 trucks not sure if they made one for trucks requiring the extra wiring for LED strip.

Never tried this harness myself (non dimming option), DRL don’t appear extremely bright in daylight but not sure at night, lot of people have this setup with no issues.

So you have the bright all the time? Do you see any pros or cons with the bright all the time? Why do some want to delete the Amber DRL on the 2019 TRD Pro Lights? Isn’t that how a stock TRD Pro runs, with Amber and LED DRLs at the same time? Appreciate all your answers. It’s all becoming clearer now.

On mine, the DRls are always bright, the amber dims when headlights are on, then brightens back up when used as turn signals.

I just went outside and I honestly never knew the Ambers dimmed with the headlights on. LOL. I have no issue so far with bright all the time and Ambers. I just watched a video on YouTube with a Tundra equipped that way and it looks pretty cool. I kinda dig my Ambers. Now it becomes truly plug and play for me. I’m sold. Win, win.

How do I get a harness made for my 2015 with bright all the time LED DRLs for the 2019 TRD Pro headlights?

Good morning @Jtsautos just curious if you pulled the trigger on the harness and what kind of hassles/ added costs were incurred coming across the border?
    Thanks

Received my dimming DRL harness set from @iHacker this morning.

I am very impressed with the fabrication quality, and my wife would tell you that I am one picky sob. It's not surprising when the quality of a new start-up product is high at the start and begins to wane as the supplier tires of supplying the demand. Not true in iHackers case...his quality today is better than his photos in Post 1. USPS lost the first shipment, and iHacker shipped another harness set immediately.

Headlights are out for delivery this afternoon. Soon I be lookin' through LED eyes.

So I’ve been rifling through this post like many of you others wondering what is the best option to take with @iHacker’s harness. Dimming? Bright all the time? Amber delete? I love the look of the ‘19 Pro headlights and as I get older, I like things as bright as they can be, within reason of course. Also, since I’m in Canada and shipping and possibly customs fees can be added, I wanna do this once, so I may just get one with the most options and then I can make changes in the future. I’m not sure if it has been dealt with in another post, but is it possible to turn off the DRL/headlight while the signal has been turned on? That might alleviate the concern with oncoming traffic not seeing the signal through all that bright white light.
    Cheers

I can't see how anyone could miss the turn signals.

I think some members choose the non-dimming DRL because the installation is slightly easier; others do it to have the brightest/baddest headlights on the road. If you blind oncoming traffic, you haven't helped yourself.

For the non-dimming option you make a fuse tap under the hood to power the LED DRL. It's only slightly more complicated to go with the dimming option...you have to install a power lead through the firewall grommet, and remove the lower dash panel and kick panel to install a relay assembly that iHacker provides, along with a couple of simple wiring connections.

If you didn't see @iHacker demo video in Post 1, I reposted it below.

    https://youtu.be/igiM9RlLHzs?t=38

First the LED DRL come on, and they are bright. iHacker chose to delete the amber DRL. I plan to keep mine, but it's a personal choice. He then tries the left and right turn signals, then hazard, and they are easily visible through the brightest level of the DRL, even in the lighted garage. How they will appear at a quarter mile at night I don't know, but with the dimming DRL harness option, it's the same as the Toyota stock configuration so it should be plenty safe (see iHacker quote above).

He then turns on the headlights and the LED DRL dim down noticeably (60% brightness). He hits the high beams twice, and then turns the headlights off and the DRL brighten back up. He then turns on/off the headlights twice to show the dimming of the DRL.

In the stock configuration, the 2014-2017 amber DRL are noticeably brighter when the headlights are off. When the headlights are turned on, the amber DRL dim down, just as the LED DRL do on the 2018+ stock OEM configuration. If you leave the amber DRL, they will brighten and dim with LED DRL just as they did before the conversion. When you use the turn signals, the amber DRL/signal lamps are completely dark in between signal flashes.

Hey @JohnLakeman thanks for the “all in one post” description. That certainly helps sorting out the the best option for me. Probably will go with the factory style option after your comments. Can always add extra lights for off-road use later.
    Much appreciated.

I see you are in VA as well. Is there any kind of law against these DRLs always being bright as opposed to being dimmed? I just don't want to constantly be hassled or flashed by other drivers.

No law at all. I've never been flashed yet in about 2 months since install.

Thanks! I guess I'm the minority here but I feel like my 16 SR5 lights are pretty adequate in lighting (compared to my 06 tacoma at least). BUT I do dig the looks and I'm sure these would offer better lighting.

Crazy I've never thought about that.

Does anyone have a video while their turn signals are on? Just want to see how the "bright all the time" looks like.
