Hey everyone, kind of curious to see if anyone else with 2018 or newer have this issue. It seems that less than half the time I cold start my Tundra I get a back fire or "pop" from my exhaust. I originally had a flowmaster 50 series and it popped and now I recently switched to a flowmaster 40 series. And it still pops on cold starts. I've read that it's just trapped gasses in exhaust and it ignites on start up and there for you get the pop sound. It's very annoying and to be honest shouldn't be happening on a brand new truck. Anyone else have this issue?

Probably due to all of the stupid redirection baffles inside of flowshit mufflers. If it didn’t do it stock then it’s the aftermarket mufflers.

Flowmaster is one of the most popular brands. Quality may not be what it use to be, but no way I am the only one with this issue.

Flowmaster just has great marketing and the fact that they design their mufflers to increase noise for cheap. Popularity doesn’t make it a great product. I have BAM exhaust on my 18’, which is basically a straight pipe design and my cold start ups are smooth as silk. The sudden burst of exhaust gas through the redirection chambers inside of the flowmaster is most likely the cause of the popping

Did you have this problem when the exhaust was stock?

I'll snap a pic and post it. But just basic setup with side outlet.

My Corsa does the same thing on a warm start up. Never does it on cold start, I love it...Also backfires coming down a hill when I’m using the gears to hold me back. I give it a little gas then let off and it pops every time....

I get it with my BA 8 inch single outlet exhaust once in a while. To me it’s no big deal.

I have dirty deeds 6" system and it happens from time to time on start up and like @Pinski when I'm using gears to brake. Doesn't bother me though

Mine does it occasionally as well. I like it! It doesn’t do it upon start up but it will do it if I’m on the gas and then off it when the truck is slightly cold driving down the street.

    I have the BAM 6”

That could have something to do with it. The OP has a side outlet. Which could very likely make it more prominent.

Agreed!! If there is an exhaust leak it can also cause the pop. Like a small gap where the gaskets on the pipe is can cause this. The cold can open the gap more due to contraction, then when Warmed up it will seal. If no leaks then it seems the TRD exhaust is in your future!!

I’m running the TRD and smooth as silk since day one. Not one backfire, ever.

I have this issue every once in a while. I had a 07 that did it to. I have a Pro now and the trd exhaust did it also but it not very loud and you probably won’t even notice unless you were listening for it. I had a Flowmaster super10 installed yesterday and I heard this afternoon. Sound like a backfire on start up. I think it’s some kind of gasses that ignite on start up.
