I'm looking at buying either a 2018 or 2017 Tundra, 5.7L. I had one person tells me he gets 8 mpg. Can't imagine what would cause it to be that low but I'm wondering, for real driving, what would you expect city/road driving mpg to be?

    Thanks for any help?

BTW, right now I have a 2020 Tacoma and am highly not impressed with its gas mileage.

    Too many, but not enough....
The tundras is not going to be much worse that your tacoma, all things considered.

Are you going to be towing? Going up alot of hills? Lots of stop and go traffic? Are you going to lift or put on giant heavy tires? All of these questions matter alot.

I get 14.5 to 16.5 average depending on ratio of city to hwy. I also have stock suspension and stock size tires. I think the mileage is actually pretty good for a giant V8.

My 2002 ford ranger 4X4 with the 4.0 V6 and manual tranny on 31's with 4.10 gears only got about 15 mpg so i didnt lose anything and got a bigger, better truck, though i miss the manual tranny everyday.

Traffic kills mpg. 11 mpg city, 15 mpg hwy. 8 mpg is towing

I was getting 14.5 MPG and I did mostly highway. I had to press very lightly on the gas pedal, too. When I drove like crazy, the MPG dropped to 12.5-13.0 MPG.

Although I may eventually get more all terrain type tire, it won't be a bigger tire. Won't be doing much towing but it is a mountainous area in places (don't expect good mpg there). I had an F-150/5.7L for years, seems about the same gas mileage.

A Tacoma with 1 size larger AT tires than stock will get within 1-2 mpg the same fuel mileage as a stock tundra. Tacoma’s biggest downfall is the lack of power combined with poor fuel economy, they are a lose lose in the powertrain.

Mine with too much crap on it gets about 15-18 on the Hwy at about 1400 rpms. Anything over 2k RPMs it sucks for sure. I didnt buy it for good mileage though.

I had a Tacoma 4x4 before and it gets about the same mileage for way more truck.

Leveling/Lift kits and offset wheels with bigger LT tires are what really kills the Tundras. If you leave it stock and don’t live in a city their mileage really isn’t that bad.

I think part of the reason the tundra gets knocked for its mileage is that toyota actually accurately reports the real life mileage people get. Ford does super duper retarded granny testing to get the best possible mileage to advertise, then when nobody actualy gets that in the real world they are pissed, unless they are driving on a flat highway for hours on a cold day behind a giant semi with no load and crappy highway tires.

my truck on stock tires and stock suspension, 13-14 city, and 16.5 hwy. I've seen my mpg as high as 18.5 on the highway but that was me cruising at 70 mph, flat, on a 6 hour non-stop road trip. not on cruise control, cc kills mpg for some reason.

cause CC maintain the set speed in sec, we only maintain the speed once in a while...
And even the flattest road have small hills the cc will slow down on downhill and speed up on uphill.

And trim level matters. Went from a 2015 2wd crewmax that got 16.5 mpg on my normal commute to a 4wd TRD Pro crewmax and the 2" factory lift and 4wd cost me nearly 2 mpg. TRD exhaust sounds so good that might contribute a little as well (i.e. heavy foot).
The 2wd non pro Tundra got within 1-2mpg of the 2018 Tacoma 4x4 V6 I had at the same time on the same route.

I’m leveled and running 33” Nitto RG tires. I get 12.5-13 city and 16ish highway. 10mpg towing.

That's what I get. In light city driving I get 16. Around town, at worst, I'll get 14.5-15. On the highway I've gotten as good as 17.8MPG or so.

Just buy it and don't worry about gas mileage. It's a truck, not a Prius.

i drive a 2017 SR5 DC and get 15.5 MPG on Los Angeles freeways. Its my daily driver as I didn't purchase a truck to worry about gas mileage. I do have a heavy foot and my "nannies" are off.:burnrubber::)

I average 12.7-13 in the city. I get 17.5-17.8 on the highway at 70. Truck is leveled on 33s.

Those numbers are with dynamic CC on. We take a good bit of 500 plus highway mile trips and the system definitely gets put to use haha
