    Hi guys,

I'm ready to purchase a 2017 CM, SR5 w/ TRD package and just found out that my dealer has a 2018 with similar specs for $4K more (it will be the first 2018 where I live). Now I'm torn between the two. I don't need really need the TSS around where I live. I've heard good things about the new LED headlights but I was looking at modding the halogen lights if I do get the 2017. Only thing I really like is the integrated keyfob/key but IDK if an additional $4K is worth that.

Buy the 18 you get the LED head lights. The 17's headlights will be terrible.

4k buys a lot of headlight. Have 'em retroed professionally and put 3k in your pocket.

18 headlights will cost you ~$600
Also remember, FWIW, the 2018's have Toyota Safety Sense, whatever value that brings to you is up to you and your use of it.

Personally, i'd keep my 4k and get a lift, wheels, tires, and headlights.

Does the dealer do the Costco program?
Chops up price difference quite a bit. Plus $1000 2018 rebate after.

    Just food for thought!

FYI, not all 2018 Tundras have the LED headlights. The SR and SR5 don't get the LED headlights unless it's in a package or ordered as an add-on. My 2018 SR5 has the 2017 style Platinum headlights with an LED strip at the bottom. I asked my dealer and they said that it wasn't part of the package on my truck. It sucks... Guess I'll just buy some aftermarket.

Here is the front of my 2018.

i would get 2018 if you can get it closer in price. I like the grille better and LED + safety stuff.

4K seems like a lot of difference if the trucks are the same trim level with like options. Anyway, if you don't care about adaptive cruise and auto high beams get the 2017 and buy OEM LED headlights and a conversion harness (600.00-700.00). The 2018 also has a much nicer instrument cluster, not worth the price difference though.

For me the choice was easy because I wanted all the safety features and LEDs so I had to get a 2018, although I was eyeballing a new 2017 1794 for 1700.00 less then what I paid for my truck. Whatever you'll get it will be a nice truck.

2018s are $1k higher and rebates much lower. Plus dealers will be more inclined to move a 2017 so dealer discounts will be better too. If you find a 2017 that you like buy it and mod yourself. This is what I did when I saw the price difference and the concerns with the Pro grille on the 2018s. Still waiting on my retrofit headlights. I just hope they are as good as advertised. I rarely use cruise so not having adaptive cruise was no concern.

Get the 2018 or you may regret you didn't, I think the features may be worth it If you can talk them down a bit more!

I had that same option and opted to go with the 2017 Tundra Limited. Other than the new grill, none of the other new features were that important to me.

If you tow, the 2018 Intergrated Brake Controller is 100 times better than the 2017 IBC. Also the instrument panel is a whole lot cooler on the 2018.

To each their own. Right? Went 2018 after screwup on 2017 deal.

For me I’d have to change 2017 grille, headlights, fogs which would cost $1500+easy. These features on 2018 are more than acceptable for me.

+ I like the dash better. I tow long distances and long days. The safety features are (for me) sensible.

Difference between the ‘17-‘18 cost wise was a few hundred less than upgrades would have been.

    2017 version- great freaking truck
    2018 version- great freaking truck

    Win with either!!

A dealer came back to me at 800 below msrp for a limited cement crewmax.. limited package and trd. I told him it's almost 3k over invoice.. he said that's the price and they don't do invoice.. wasn't wanting to budge at all... gonna be a long road bc I won't pay that close to msrp

I guess they can ask whatever the market bears in your area. Where I live (right outside a military base) the 2018's don't hang around very long on the dealer lots. They also have no problems to sell the 2018 Tundra with dealer added lift kits and different wheel/tire combos for about 5500.00 more (stupid in my opinion). They still have plenty 2017's though and are much more willing to give better deals.

You can definitely do better than that. I bought my 2018 Limited Crewmax at the end of September right after they hit the lots in my area. MSRP was $49,5xx and I got them down to $44,800 including the $750 rebate at the time. So, I paid $45,188 out the door after title/license/registration (no sales tax in OR). This is with my own financing and no trade. People always will give you these fantastic prices but fail to mention they traded something in, in which case they oftentimes get bent over on to get that "great price" on the new truck. Again, this was right after the '18s hit the lot in my area, so you should be able to do better now, especially with the higher current rebate.

You are in NY metro area. There are no deals. Lol

    Costco
    https://m.costcoauto.com/enterzipcode.aspx?gotourl=/default.aspx

Look up zip codes in areas you would drive to.

You could take ferry to Connecticut and go from there.

Did you call dealer I PM’d you last week? They are closed sundays.

For my search i had a $300 one day rule.
My cost to get there and back could not exceed $300 and could take no longer than one day total travel.

    Good luck

    Thanks guys.

I decided on the 2017 and picked her up last Saturday.

I live in Guam and we only have 1 dealership of each of the car brands. So we are SOL on getting a better deal from another dealer. I've never paid MSRP or below for any of the new vehicles I've ever bought.

You are in the same situation while in the military and stationed overseas, everything is run through AAFES (military exchange service) and you are at their mercy. Price is price and you have two choices.......take it or leave it.
