Just bought a 2012 Tundra, traded in my 2010 Sequoia with 250K miles for it. So, very familiar with the platform. That said, the specifications I found list the fuel tank as 26.4gal for a 2012 Tundra Double Cab Limited 4X4. Pulled into a gas station with "10 miles to empty" - put in 21.5 gals? I know there is a "hold back" of fuel so you can exceed 0 miles for a bit, but 5gals worth?!? When I pulled in, the fuel gauge was on empty, after a fill-up, went to full. Onboard MPG was 11.3 (I reset it to 0 on purchase with the first top-off), I mathematically calculated 13.6mpg - which is more in line with my Sequoia.

So, I'm trying to figure out what's going on here. Do I have a bad sending unit? Is it really a 22 gal tank, is it a large reserve of fuel or what? confused here.

    Thanks!

It’s just a huge reserve. The 38 gallon tank is the same way, it basically says you’re empty after using 30-32 gallons.

    Alot of them
Its a 26 gallong with 5 to 6 of it reserved to keep the fuel pump submerged and cool. It has nothing to do with driving past 0. The remaining miles to empty is also an estimate.

My reserve light comes on when I have about 6.5 gallons left according to my Ultra Gauge.

The last quarter on the gauge is basically free fall. I've had it show 1/4 at 15 gal used like usual but pop the low fuel warning at 18 gal
