2008 Tundra Cremax w/JBL Aftermarket 8in Sub Replacement

Hello,

New here and very ignorant in a lot of things but working on reducing my ignorance as I learn more and more lol. I have a question and Ive read some forums regarding similar questions/answers but unsure if it applies to what I am trying to achieve.

Issue: Stock 8in Sub behind rear seats had a tear in them
Goal: I want to just swap out the old sub for a new sub
Current status: Ive just purchased and installed a

$170 Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 8" Dual 2-Ohm Punch Series Shallow Mount Car Subwoofer

Subwoofer with the factory plastic box and need to know how to cable it with what I have. Ive read here to cable this in a parallel from the picture.

I am hearing almost like loud hiccup sounds when i turn the music up or turn the bass up, what did I mess up? Should this be in a series?
Would my current factory amp(if any) support this speaker?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if you fixed already. But I too used the stock enclosure with a shallow mount. On mine it was hitting the plastic trim in front of the speaker. I created distance between the speaker and the trim by not installing the bottom portion of the push pins and putting a spacer to keep the trim installed.

I just installed a RF Punch P3 8 Shallow Dual 2 ohm (Stock JBL system, stock amp.) I wired it 2 ohms and it sounded like it was also blown. Took it out and re-wired at 4 ohms and now it's perfectly splendid!

@m14mike did replacing the factory with the RF sound better? In your opinion was it a noticeable difference? Of course not compared to new amp, new enclosure, blah blah blah. But could you tell a difference by simply replacing the factory sub?

 

Well, since the factory sub was blown, yes it sounded much better . I've installed several systems, but I'm only replacing the factory stuff when it blows since my Tundra is basically totaled from hail damage. Like I said, the new one sounded blown itself but I had it wired incorrectly. Wired at 4 ohms this sub is worth the money.

 

I swapped in an 8” Alpine Type S subwoofer into the factory box (had to use a 1” ring spacer) and it is substantially better sounding.
I also sound deadened the floor and back wall which made a noticeable difference for the factory sub.
