Woke up this morning (-5 temp outside) and started up my 2008 Sequoia 5.7L with 161k. Mint condition. On the dash I got blinking 4LO & VSC OFF and solid light on CK ENGINE and TRAC CONTROL lights. It was in 4HI when I shut it off last night. No issues and no lights at all when I shut it off last night.

It’s driving fine. No issues what do ever but the lights on the dash. 4HI works and I can turn it on and off.

it will not go into 4LO. Just does nothing when I switch it.

    (Side note)
    1. I had $1600 worth of grand motion work done in Aug when the same lights came on but the car wouldn’t drive only but in 4th gear. Repaired and was never an issue again.
    2. The last few days it’s taken a very-very long time for heat to come out of the vents. Doesn’t matter the position the knobs are set in. Takes 10-12 min to get any heat. This is also a new problem as of 2 days a ago. ONLY when I actually start driving does the heat come out.
    3. 1 week ago I replaced the battery.

Not sure if any of these are tied together or separate issues.

Any insights would be much appreciated.

Best advice I can give you is to pull codes We can all take a stab at it and be way off... There is a matrix on here somewhere based on lights and blinks that can give you an idea if you don't have an OBD2 reader...

I think the triggering of 4lo & VSC off with the CEL is a method to attracting your attention of a potential problem... I've gotten the 4LO light, and I have a 2wd so I don't get too worried about it.

The heat issue is based on the coolant and engine temperature... if it takes 10 minutes to warm up the engine, then that's how long it will take to get the heater working...

If you don’t have a code reader, try your luck at Autozone or one of the other shops, check codes.

Is this the 5.7 ‘flex-fuel’ engine? Cold out? If so, take a look at the ethanol reading with the ECU, can become an issue.

5.7L non-flex. But yeah, it was -5 this morning. Everything works fine and goes in and out of 5HI no problems. Just the blinking and no 4LO. But the heat thing also just happened at the same time.

could this be a belt thing? they are overdue to be replaced and thats scheduled for next week.

With the lack of heat, I assume your coolant is full? Does the temp gauge get up to normal operating temps? If not the thermostat may be an issue. Of course at temps near zero, it’s gonna take a while to warm up.

My 08 Tundra issue is that whenever 4LO & VSC OFF and solid light on CK ENGINE and TRAC CONTROL lights come on, the shifting remains smooth 1 thru 3, but will not enter to 4th gear.
When I reset the codes all is well, up through overdrive, for a few days and sometimes two weeks. Then the lights come back on and my shifting problems return. Any ideas? I believe it to be electronic? Code reads Transducer D, once it was Transducer B.

It starting to sound like most people are stating.. the Air Induction Pump or AIP, or SAIP for Secondary Air Induction Pump... It will put the truck in limp mode and it is an electronic override where it will neuter your truck's engine and transmission... Transducer D and B, may be related to the transmission remaining in 3rd gear because of limp mode

If the AIP has been resolved you may have a shift solenoid issue, but that would be accompanied by a more specific code to better identify the issue.
