I am new to the site and apologize if this subject has been covered before. I want to replace the engine in my 07 tundra. It is a 5.7 with the 5 vin# V. I know the V stand for 5.7, but what does the 5 vin# of Y stand for and can I use it as a replacement engine in my truck. I have found an 2016 engine with low milage but it has a Y vin for the 5th place. what would be required to put the Y engine in my 2007 5.7 with a V for the 5th vin# Any help and would be appreciated.

    I don’t know V. 5th would be W=flex fuel, Y=non flex fuel on my 12, 16, and 18. Maybe 07 was different?

V and Y were both used for the 3UR-FE, the change happened sometime in 2009 or 2010. Pulling the engine is not a small job, it barely fits unless you cut the radiator support or lift the cab. As these trucks are mostly unchanged unless you have some rare option like a rcsb 4x4 5.7 it's usually more cost effective to sell what you have and get a newer Tundra

Like Nick T posted above, a cab lift needs to be done. I haven't seen it done any other way. If you have the time, capability, and got a great deal on that 2016 motor.... Do It!

I have found a few engines from salvage yards but they are listed with the Y as 5th vin#. Pricing was around $5200 for an 2016 engine with 18,000 miles. Local Toyota shop said would exchange and install the engine for another $!400. The would be with a 6 month warranty. I have considered selling mine and buying another but again, I have not found another Tundra that I could buy that is comparable to an engine swap in value. I appreciate all suggestions and information from all.

Where do you live? I would take my Tundra there when it comes time to swap my engine for $400

$1400 still seems reasonable. Only if you could get a $2-3 K motor.

Whats wrong with your present motor?

    Too many to list
$1400 is still on the cheap side especially at the stealership

Thats what i was thinking. I doubt its a dealership, probably a junkyard shop that does swaps all day long.

What happened to the engine in your truck? First off, the engine can be removed without lifting the cab but it's no small job. I am a Toyota dealership tech and I've done several of them. My first step is to remove the transmission, which permits the engine to be lifted directly from the vehicle (after removing the hood and the cowl assy.
