Have the seller agreeing to 14k for a 2006 double cab with 96k miles and 4WD. Very good shape overall and timing belt recently changed at 89k. Should I pull the plug and snag it before someone else does? His original asking price was 15.5k

What’s the KBB value on it? If everything checks out on it and it’s what you’re looking for then yes, pull the trigger.

Looks like a good truck, if it's worth 14k to you, go for it. Some have paid more, some have paid less. Clean non-rusty 4wd Dbl cabs with less than 100k miles are unicorns. This one has obviously not been off-roaded either.

It’s not to far off this mark and it’s low mileage. Carfax check out?

No, have not run a carfax on it. Probably should spend the $40 just to be safe

Don't put much faith in kbb. They've never been very accurate and during the last year prices of used trucks has gone high.

What state is this in? How does the undercarriage look?

Truck is in Kansas. Frame looks good. Very slight rust (nothing serious) and previous owner put some sort of coat to prevent any further

That's actually not always a good thing. Some of the rubberized undercoatings actually make things worse. I would really spend 20-30 minutes up under the frame with a flashlight. We've had numerus members buy a 1st gen without really inspecting the frame only to realize the truck is a goner. If the frame is as nice as you say, then go for it. I would assume Kansas gets a lot of salt so I would be cautious.

Pics of the frame would be helpful in determining the rust factor

I would say go have a look. Take a screw driver and if you see rust or strange textures on the frame give them a poke. If that looks okay, should be a good buy.

Vehicles are worth whatever you are willing to pay. I think KBB typically undervalues toyota 4x4s, especially in regions where they are very popular.

Will have a hard time finding a tundra DC with that low of mileage and appears to be in great shape.

If there is no frame rust and it's got a clean history, I'd snag it.
$14K is often a 'Down Payment' on some of todays new trucks.

As mentioned above, I'd check the Carfax and/or Autocheck history. As long as the frame just has surface rust, I'd say that's a buy. KBB can be a helpful guide, but cars are generally worth what people will pay for them. Market conditions have an impact as well as supply and demand. These trucks are hard to find in that kind of shape with those miles. I buy cars for CarMax for a living in Colorado and that truck would be worth quite a bit more out here, honestly.

Met with the owner again and got some pics of the frame. Please let me know what you think. I told him this was the make or break on me purchasing the truck.

Looks like a good amount of rust. Someone appears to have attempted spray painting it in some of the photos. Personally, I'd stay away from that one. Not the worst I've seen but certainly not great in my opinion.

If the "coating" they were talking about is just the spray paint(or whatever it is) sprayed over rust, that really doesn't do much of anything. You gotta get to it before the rust starts, obviously.

Do you know what is gong on in the first picture attached with the yellow highlight around it. Im not a mechanic by any means, but to me looks like to different supports on the frame are expanding? Looks like rust or some sort of build-up in between

I saw that. It appears in the third to the last photo as well. Without looking in person it's hard to tell...but it appears to be either some really odd damage, or whatever they use on the roads in Kansas has caused some crazy reaction to force those sections of frame to separate like that.

Price is slightly high for the truck in "Very Good" condition. This truck looks clean but your closer inspection reveals the "very good" is way off. As the other person pointed out the rust is really not an issue but the hiding of it is. Once a seller has resorted to hiding problems you have not idea what else has been covered up. Run away.

Side note. Just cause I'm bored I decided to run the KBB on the Chevy, Ford, and Dodge even though at the time they were significantly higher priced, higher end, and larger. I gave an effort to keep things equal even though its hard cause the other brands offered much more and the Chevy in the crewcab was also heavy duty. Funny how even though "were just as good as Toyota" your resale even to a truck not even close to your specs is embarrassing. I sold my 2005 Tundra in 2019 before buying my 3rd Gen and it had over 210,000 miles and still got almost 9K. New in 2005 it was $26,500 as we still have the sticker. 66% loss in 14 years and 210,000+ miles. Not sure the Ford with 210 total miles would get that. Resale value is the ultimate decider in a vehicles worth and Cooter's Dodge (Fiat) Ram may be just outstanding at $73,000 dollars but at 200,000 miles in 2034 it won't be worth its price in sheetmetal.

I think I am going to have to pass on the truck. For the price I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. Can you elaborate a little more on exactly what you marked in the picture?

Nevermind I looked at the full picture. Looks completely rusted though. Completely missed that

It's not damage. It's actually very common. That area of the frame "overlaps". I say that in quotes because it's really a brace they put over the frame for support. Water/salt gets behind it and causes it to delaminate. My truck is from the south and still did it, though not nearly as bad. I test drove a 06 DC today and it had the same issue.
