Installing a new carrier bearing and after got installed and yoke back on , bearing would not turn . I removed it and couldnt find anything but will say it didn't turn real freely even uninstalled . Looked at a youtube video just to see if anyone installed and might shed some light on how tight this thing turns and noticed there was what seemed to be a thin washer that went on between carrier and splined yoke assembly. To be honest I dont remember this washer when orig was removed but I had to do a lot of work to get old one off and could have dropped it without knowing or remembering . Does anyone here know about how thick this washer is. I think in the video it looked really thin . I Dont think this contributed to my bearing not turning because even without the yoke assembly installed it would not turn. Im thinking it was really a shim rather than a washer.

I’ll post up some pics, but first you should for sure buy a new ‘castle nut’ as it needs to be torqued to 130ftlbs? and then backed off and retorqued to something like 90ftlbs and slot kinked.

Many of the youtubes vids never mention this. I thank @Festerw for the specs.

Here are all the parts pictured. The thin washer probably fell out or still may be stuck in the old CB.

Thanks washer not stuck probably flew across shop when I removed cause had to actually remove carrier outer mount and cut off rubber then drive bearing off. Before that I had to really work to get yoke off and somewhere in between the washer must have fell , still looking.

Ok. Now you know what to look for.

Next time for anyone that cares, you can use a small chisel 1/2” wide and lightly tap the CB off from the backside. Just make sure you tap the chisel on the metal part of the inside bearing ring. Lightly tap, using a small hammer, all the way around a few times and it will come off.

Yea, no hand model here, as far as tapping that carrier bearing off , I did what you said for about an hour . This thing was stuck but you are right on how it should come off . I saw a couple videos where it just slipped off it seems.

Looks like the new one comes with a washer.the washer is there to protect the bearing. I just ordered a “spicer’’ bearing and u-joints for my 2002 Toyota Tundra. Spicer makes them for Toyota and other manufactures for half the price.if you got it from Toyota dealer it is a spicer with Toyota name on it.i got this information straight from spicer

What brand carrier bearing did you use? Looks like I may have to do this soon. I have zero vibrations but I inspected mine today and it looks shot.

I went OEM from eBay. When my shop opened it they said it was really a Spicer in a Toyota box. Spicer makes them apparently.

Well, to tell you the truth , I dont know , will have to look at box. Got frustated and wanted to get this thing fixed tonight. I had bought one from Oreillys but it would not spin after install. Barely spun when not installed. was cheap looking , should have known better. This one is much better quality , looks exactly like orig one .

I figured out just a couple days ago that mine needs to be replaced. The bearing spins fine but the rubber mount is completely destroyed. The bearing is just floating in the bracket.

Surprisingly I get no vibration in 2WD...just a little in 4WD which I think is a CV shaft.

Good to know about the washer. The new one I just got didn't come with one.

I can’t hardly believe this is right. That’s very cheap for a spicer/OEM replacement. Says though at the bottom of the page fits 2000-2006 tundra. Hmmm

You can re-use the washers. I did. Just the castle nut is recommended to be replaced.

Looks similar except for the wings. I think the key component is the rubber quality and density (heaviness). Read some Doorman reviews and theiR CB looks the same in pics, but the rubber is floppy and loose with no density to it per reviewers.

Spicer is a good brand. Wished I had known this before forking out almost $200 clams for the Toy brand. Oh well, its been working nicely and went on with zero problems.
