2006 SR5 alternator

    Thinking my alternator may be heading out. Drove home from the store and battery light came on, checked volts with my ultra gauge and I'm only getting 11.5-11.80 volts while running. There's a slight whine as well that adjusts with the rpm. Not sure if a bearing is seized up or what's going on but my guess is alternator. What brand does everybody use when they replace theirs? Duralast, denso?

    Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
    I just get mine "rebuilt" from a local Alternator repair shop. This is usually the most cost effective solution and in my past experience the BEST solution. Usually the Stator, diodes or rectifier get worn out. However you are mentioning a slight squeek, the issue may also be the bearing going bad or the pulley going bad.

    Mind me asking how cost effective? I'm seeing new and reman ones for 160-220ish

    Also what amperage would you guys recommend or what is stock? The options go from 80amps to 130amps

    Rebuild is usually around $40-$60, depending on what is wrong with it. Typically the technician will take it apart, let you know there suggestion. Usually they do not charge for this.
    Just depends on how much "Charging Power" you want. It is always helpful for me to think of Amperage as "electrical pressure". If that makes sense to you, lol.
