I am curious how long the engines last? I've heard good things and am looking at a 2005 with 227k on it. I haven't check the service records yet but looks super clean. It drives very nice steering is not sloppy and has very responsive throttle more than I was expecting for a 4.7. If all the records come back good would any of you hesitate? I KBB the truck based on trim and options it's worth about 8-8.5k dealer wants 6k it's been sitting there awhile. The interior looks loved I can only hope the same is true with engine. Any common issues with this year or issue that you think I should look out for? Thanks in advance. And btw how many miles on your 4.7 V8 and what have you done maintenance wise for it in that time?

A guy recently traded in his 1 million mile Tundra with the 4.7.

I sold my 2000 limited access cab with 187k for $10000 last year. Probably could have gotten more! $6000 sounds good even with those miles. 4.7 is a good motor all mine ever needed was the normal stuff. Timing belt, water pump and pulleys and spark plugs.

yep bank account is running low from it..
    2005

When was the timing belt and water pump changed last? If it over 5 years or 90,000 miles replace it.

Only thing bad is the stupid air pump system they will fail... If it does bypass it and you are back to normal.

I'm not going to lie. The 4.7 does have cast rods. Now if you put the engine on excessive loads or have a heavy foot it's not the engine for you. Rods will break.. If you rebuild the engine with forge rods the engine is a beast( doing mine soon).

I have a 2003 same engine minus the air pump and vvti. Mine is a 4 speed where yours is a 5.

How much do forged rods cost with labor as I would get mine done at shop? And BTW no towing will be done with it but may have been used to tow things in the past as it has that tow package optioned on it.

Mine had a funky knock when it was super cold out. I had just done all new brakes again! And done the rear wheel bearings and one axle. Not the original rear end. I also had replaced the transfer case a few years back. You didn't say if the one you're looking at is 4wd, access cab, double cab? Those things make a big difference in value.

Yeah, sounds like a good deal. Get them to start it up cold for you and check for smoke and any weird noises. Try 4wd high and low. Ask them if you can take it to your mechanic. If they say no there could be something wrong with it.
