I have a 2005 double cab 4wd. I couldn't find any credible info on its towing capacity. Some info that I found is 4700 lbs. What the heck! The 2000 4runner already has 5000 lbs capacity. And even Tundra access cab RWD even has the capacity in 6500 lbs. I remember a long time ago that I saw a source posted that the double cab 4wd has 6700 lbs. Can you point some accurate info on this? I need to be convinced, please. :)

Thanks everyone for your inputs. Mine is SR5 2UZFE with Bilstein shocks. It also has a large oil cooler under the front bumper. Does it mean that it has a towing package?

Then I'd say it's safe to say it has the full tow package.

If you create an account @ Toyota, with the VIN you can look at your actual specs for that veh.

Wow! Lots of good info. My Tundra has all of the above, so I feel confident keep towing my boat.

You can pull it, but can you stop it?

I don’t like towing anymore than 4500lbs., basically the same weight as our trucks, in the 2002 due to the stopping factor. She can grunt and tow/haul nicely but braking with over 4500lbs. becomes scary.

Depending on the state, most require trailer brakes above a certain weight. PA for example requires them on anything capable of carrying 3,000lbs or over.

I sure hope so! I have the factory tow pkg, a brake controller, and the later years came with bigger brakes. All I'm towing now is a sandrail which weighs ~1600lbs. But it's good to know I can tow a lot more if needed.

My Bay Boat pushes 5000 fully loaded. Even with a bad brake actuator I had no problems towing and stopping. I do notice some difference stopping once I fixed the brakes.

I tow my boat and trailer, which I estimate would be in the 5500 lbs or more. The rear dips down about 2". It's time for helper leaf springs or air bags.

We thank you. It gets confusing when the specs are different between the Gens. Someone might read your comment and think ‘1st Gen’.
