1St Gen tranny

What tools are required to remove tranny 01 tundra 4.7 auto TRD

 

Metric sockets 12mm too 22mm if I remember right... Lots of extensions (few bobblehead ones) good breaker bar or impact gun.. and alot of patience..

And of course a transmission jack..

 

Thanks mike so i shouldn't need any size bigger than 22mm correct? I've been researching almost all night trying to find what size sockets needed. Im glad i joined this forum

 

Your 03 is sharp Mike

 

Really your biggest bolts are the crossmember bolts. If I remember right they are not passed 22mm but don't hold me to it.

Small size is the shifter..

I want to say size 18/mm for some reason I don't know why..

Few open end wrenchs you will need..

Ok sounds good I've been watching rebuild vids looks like brain surgery is easier than rebuilding the tranny we have our work cut out for us for sure

IMO.. send it to a transmission shop and let them rebuilt it.. (find a good one)

What's wrong with the tranny?

 

Very true man.. it's all in the details when you build it. Why no suspension is done yet to mine.

 

They say our gearing beats hemi's all day ! I've haven't researched it for myself but if true thats incredible !

 

Hemis are not that great trust me. 1st gen Tundras have a cast iron block.. we have play room for improvement with our engines.. ALOT.

 

I've completely redone my front end bought parts from rock auto and did all the work myself saved a fortune rather than a shop sending me to the cleaners.

 

Very true i haven't had any complaints yet I've put a beating on er she takes it like a champ

 

She won't go into gear drive shaft not spinning so we eliminated rear differential

 

If my memory is correct the 99 to 02 had a parking issue or something like that in locking gear reverse and first.. .. in 03 Toyota solved the problem I forgot what all they changed...

 

Yes i heard about that too that it jumps in park or some sort. I would love for that to be the case . I was having slippage prior to her going. Driving it one day started bucking then lost power. Parked in a lot checked fluids an such an underneath everything intacked . Drove up a hill lost power and it just rolled to a stop. Then it wouldn't go into gear with loud noises following.

 

Sounds like the clutch packs went out. Wouldnt hurt to check the torque converter make sure it's still in spec.
