Nope, but it looks like OTC has the same unit for 3x more: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/otc-6494

Which means it's another item likely mass-produced in Mainland China.

Call around to the local 4wd shops and see how much they'll charge you for assembly. Most of the $100 spring compressors on Amazon are going to have a hard time with the diameter of the springs on the 6112s, and it's not pretty when the spring slips off. I bought this one under the advice of someone else on here, was sketchy but worked when I removed my 650 lb springs, and the spring bowed out when trying to compress my new springs. I suspect you'll have the same problem with the spring bowing out.

I thought those were only meant for McPherson type struts and not truck coils?

What about the method of just letting the weight of the front end compress the spring? Only downside is you’ll need a new front end alignment when you loosen up the CAM hardware for the spring and shock to fit.

You're too far in from each end. You're trying to compress just the middle of the spring, that's never gong to work.

I would, but my LCA bolts are seized. Alignment is good too, so I don’t really want to mess with the cam bolts if I don’t have to.

The big issue is that the spring compressor doesn’t allow for space in the center for the shock body to go through. If the shock would fit, I could compress it using the compressor no problem.

My niece is getting her first car and I was talking to her and my sister about options. They want a decent car for her but definitely nothing super new or fancy. Something dependable but still “fun”. She doesn’t want a 4r cause it’s a “boy car”. Tried to get her to go taco or tundra, but she’s a 15 yo girl, so I’m not sure what I was expecting. Sequoia is a little too soccer mom I think.

What about an 07-14 FJ? Anybody on here had any experience with them? Kind of a fun teenage car. Not crazy expensive. I don’t really know anything about them. Quick AI search said 2010 and later are better and watch for frame rust.

you hit on it. Basically the same thing as a 4R, so it’s your standard you want a well maintained one. It’s a lot easier to find 4R deals. Earliest had some inner fender strength issues.

Yup, that's the paint-rubby style of ARE camper shell. So it's more modern, but the syle will damage your paint, rub thru it.

I’ve done this every time I’ve swapped my Bilsteins. I use the weight of the truck to get compression on the spring and then tighten the spring compressor down on it. I’m not really using it to compress the spring much, just hold the compressed state. Lots of lube on the threads.

Yeah, I did my TRD springs and Bilsteins last year with that same compressor with no problem. The fact that those safety pins aren't in place is scary.

I couldn't care much less about my white paint. It's the trucks least endearing feature and IMHO a horrible color. So that's fine for now.

That's the thing, the springs on the 6112s don't fit any of the cheaper spring compressors properly and there isn't much room between the spring and the shock body to get them onto the shock once you have them compressed.

I've been debating whether or not to buy coilovers ready built. Debate settled ;)

Do coils degrade much over 280k?

I’m betting that Purple Power will remove a decent amount of it. Then following up with Ospho might get a bunch more of it off. Make doubly sure not to let either of those products dry on whatever you spray it on.

That’s the exact same style spring compressor that i used to squeeze my 650lb Eibach coils a few months ago.

I did lather up the threads as well as the washers that are under the hex heads with anti-seize lube though. Less friction makes a HUGE difference!

Hard to say unless you bought the exact same coils to compare, but who does that? Upgrade! :)

Easy Off Oven Cleaner…ahhh, C'est la vie. Literally it was my first and last day as a professional hand model when i used a judicial amount of it to clean my hands right before the director started to roll the camera. And just like that i was back out on the streets at rock bottom giving high fives to the hoi pollio with zero care or disregard for my cuticles.

You always have to use gloves with oven cleaner. That stuff is caustic. Cleans your wheels great, but it strips coatings and pits the metal if you leave it on long enough.

Not sure why you’re not using the typical automotive gel hand cleaner like the rest of us.
