    NO!

It’s less than $200 on RockAuto. Does that price include other components?

Edit: wait, that’s the labor cost? That sounds pretty damn reasonable to me- I’ve charged my friends $550 to do theirs.

    Fuck no?? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/asn-tkt-021

I'm guessing Summit probably has a coupon for free shipping, and they'll also price-match the tax+ship price RockAuto comes up with.

EDIT: Wait ... are you saying $600 for the LABOR, the PARTS, or the PARTS+LABOR ?!

Sorry for being unclear. That's for the labor only.
I bought the AISIN kit on Rockauto for $175

Ok. Yes. For labor, that's totally fair. If I could find someone certified who I trusted to do the work who only charged $600, I've be all over it. And I'd probalby have a hard time not hopping in to help.

It's going to take him at least 5-6 hours, $100/hr is cheaper than the dealer will charge you. And they'll probably own up to less than that if there's an issue.

This is the time to replace your coolant. Budget $100 for that also.

Basically everything you need to unbolt anyway, so "good to do while you're in there". I wish the cam seals were as easy on my '06 as they are on your '04.

You should’ve asked about the additional cost of replacing the water pump and thermostat as well since everything is already opened up for you and shouldn’t cost a heck of a lot more in labor, but yeah, it’s a good deal.

The AISIN pink coolant is only $13/gal at the Rock so I ordered 4 gallons of it.

If all goes well I'm going to let him do the valve cover gaskets next. And the aluminum->plastic intake upgrade with new injectors. Ordering everything I can think of while there is a 15% sale going and this tech is between jobs.

How many miles on the truck? <200k probably doesn't need injectors replaced, and, if it does have high mileage, Keith at Dirty Deeds has 12-hole injectors at a better price than OEM.

Plastic instake is best purchased from a JY truck, or used. It's plastic... but do the gaskets while in there.

You'll get a good performance restoration by replacing the injectors.

Yeah I actually bought everything for that upgrade a couple years ago and it's just been sitting in my garage. Plastic intake, 12 hole injectors, gaskets, new throttle body all for $450. Truck has 323K miles as of today.

You'll definitely be happy with what the new injectors do for the truck.

It's probably going to give a great pep-up, from what other 200k+ milers have said. And they saw mpg go up. Less ticking at idle reported.

That's the one. "TKT-" is the prefix for Aisin timing kits. "-021" kit includes everything you need for the 2UZ (water pump, belt, tensioner, pulleys, and a couple other bits). "-001" removes a couple of bits, the tensioner for sure, maybe a gasket or something?

As long as they know what they're doing that's a great deal. I paid $700 to have my timing belt, water pump, and radiator installed.

I’m skeptical about performance improvements with new injectors. I just replaced my starter at about 250k+ and while there cleaned the injectors and replaced the o-rings. Runs fine and smooth.

Runs fine and smooth = performance improvement.

I bet he could knock it out in about 6 hours at his house. He left the local Toyota dealership after 10 years in the service department. He's looking for work to bridge the gap while he waits to see if gets a job with the state DOT.

Another bonus, he is willing to work on Saturdays.

Finally finished the article. Much could be said, but I don't want the ban-hammer coming down. I will say this though: we get what we deserve through consent, whether implicit or explicit.

On another note, how many of you can remember being able to walk into a car dealership, choosing the car you wanted, choosing the options you wanted in/on it (and none that you didn't) and getting a phone call ~ 6 weeks later from the salesman when your car arrived to come pick it up?
