Nah not even close on the 3rd gen Tacoma's. The 4th gens are a bit bigger though. The dash is angled up like the FGT to give more knee room, but it's still not as spacious

Here is a 2025 Tacoma on my lot with my hand for scale. Also put a 3rd gen and FGT

Our 1st gens would feel even roomier if the steering wheel was more telescopic, it juts into the seat area substantially compared to earlier models. But that may also be a bit of necessity, given the extra legroom.

I think part of the problem with the Tacos is how low and bucketed the seats sit in the truck. Higher seat lends to more driver comfort.

I'm generally happy with my 1st gen, but honestly, every GM 1500 pickup I've ever owned was far more comfortable to sit in for road trips. I made several 1000-2000 mile long-haul road trips in my 2003 Sierra, for example, and never felt remotely uncomfortable. I reckon anything more than 6-8 hours in my 1GT would probably wreck my back.

Oh absolutely. The bucket seat force your knees upward on the Taco.

And I agree on the fgt needing a telescopic steering wheel. It would be a nice feature to have.

I’ve been driving grandpas DC taco, the floor is higher, and the roof is lower, but its the same length & same width. His back seat is just as useless, and the bed is a joke.

I have to disagree, I parked next to a new Taco AC at the diner and front to back it was the same size as my 01 Tundra AC.

    From the specs:
    2001 Tundra AC - 217 inches
    2001 Tacoma - 202 inches
    2026 Tacoma = 213 inches

    2026 Tundra - 233 inches

Can't get a whole lot closer than that.

Surface area/LxWxH may be similar, but interior-wise, I'm fairly certain there's more interior room in the 1st gen.

The new models are also a lot more "sporty" and they design it in a cockpit feel. High center console, no pass between.

The high center console thing is, I think, one of the biggest turnoffs to me in a vehicle these days. I don't like feeling like I'm sitting in a box.

I'm not even a claustrophobic person, but if I can use the entire center console, right up to the dash, as one big, long armrest, then I don't want to own/drive that vehicle.

My DC definitely feels more roomier than my Dad's 2nd gen Taco DC

Center consoles are a deal killer for me, they eat up too much real estate.

A buddy of mine has a '23 AC Taco and I've parked my 03 AC Tundra side by side with his truck plenty of times. Before I swapped out my suspension and after he had the factory leveling kit installed on his truck, our trucks were the same height, and are basically the same width and length on the exterior, but the interior in the bed and the cab is a lot smaller. Also the front visibility is shit with that giant grill on the front, but that's all modern trucks now. I was amazed the first time he lifted the hood and I saw how much empty space there is in there between the grill and the radiator. I've owned and driven lots of first gen Tacos, and his 3rd gen still feels like a Taco on the interior with the general seat placement and how close the seats are to each other. The main reasons I first started looking at Tundras over was I was tired of rubbing elbows with passengers, and I didn't feel like paying the first gen Tacoma tax, which now the first gen Tundras are also getting. I still wouldn't mind picking up a 2wd RCLB first gen Taco at some point as more of a city truck and for that low bed height.

Nice roadside score today. Construction just wrapped on a house a block from our youngest kid's school. After pickup, we rolled by, and someone left their pile of misc garbage at the curb, and next to it, a small shop vac, and Dewalt tool bag. A lot of what was in the bag was garbage, rusty tool bits, but it did have some goodies inside, including a charger I'll never use, clean 2.5" cutting brush, drill bit kit, misc bits, hardware. Looks like you can get these bags as cheap as $20 shipped on fleaBay, but MSRP is ~$50. No complaints here, this'll make a great junkyard bag. Shop vac looked to be Red Devil or something, slightly larger than a beachball (so pretty small), so I left it for the next guy. Looks like the charger is a cheapie for 12v-20v and $15 on scAmazon. Anyone need it? Yours for the cost of shipping. I have no way to test it though.

Worth a shot, but return them if anything looks off with the packaging. Was the Rock Auto part number the same? I usually order from Summit unless it's something that Rock Auto carries and Summit doesn't.

Well, I guess that means no more magnets.

Actually, not a huge loss as I tend to order most stuff from Toyota dealers during the -25% sales lately.

My friend just bought a 3rd gen 4Runner about a month ago. It’s a Limited model with the coveted supercharged v6! He turned it into his wheeler, but the only problem is that he just found out he doesn’t fit inside of it. He’s 6’ 4” with a long torso, so his head hits the headliner. He asked me for ideas, and the first thing that comes to mind is to swap out the leather power seat for a manual SR5 cloth seat, then attempt to modify the seat brackets from there. It will still not be enough head room for him, so i’m pretty sure he’ll have to remove the sunroof and headliner as well. I have a feeling it’s going to be a bit hack to use self tapping sheetmetal screws to attach a large sheet of aluminum over the opening for the deleted sunroof!

I have a buddy around that height, he has to duck his head to get into my Tundra and still barely fits. Can't imagine him in a 4Runner with power seats and a sun roof.

It’s kinda comical when he sits in it. He physically has to stay hunched over if he’s behind the wheel. I’d have more empathy for him, but he really prides himself on being taller than most everyone else. Before he even bought the Runner, i was pointing him towards a late 80’s station wagon style Land Cruiser. It would fit his tall frame much better.

Hollis has grown just like the Taco. Get rid of the Taco and sell Hilux in US. And don’t forget diesels and 5 speeds.

www.densoautoparts.com to look up what you need.

Only buy “exact fit” part and not the universal. Never cut your wiring to install new sensors.

Never buy on scAmazon or fleaBay, regardless who you think is actually supplying it (counterfeits are rampant).

If you need help picking the right part# give a shout.
