Making some stir-fry tomorrow. Gotta start the rice off the day before. A little bone stock to flavor it right.

Just got a good deal from Best Buy on a Tablo 4-channel OTA DVR for $99 (normally $139) Supposedly they give you a free TV guide for 2 weeks ahead on their 4th gen recorders. Definitely need a backup for when my 9-11 year old TIVO Roamio dies. I’m still trying to figure out their angle for free guide info.

Free EPG data is an easy way to get people hooked into your ecosystem, showing them how similar to a traditional cable/satellite/IPTV broadcast system you can enjoy with OTA. I'm also a current Roamio user (S5/Tarvos) and have been a TiVo customer since pre-S2 days. I've replaced my Roamio power bricks twice now, and recently went to full OTA after running new RG6 and installing the ClearStream MAX-V.

I specifically stuck with TiVo because you can sign up for the lifetime sub for each box at purchase, getting unlimited EPG data for the life of the box. Super helpful, since we recently gave Comcast/Xfinity the middle finger and cut the cord, now internet-only. I'm enjoying all the same TV, recorded on the Roamio, as we had prior, and I wasn't even clear the Roamio would record OTA content, so I'm over the moon this is all working, and I was able to cut around $100/mo expenses out of our monthly bills.

Granted, there were only a few shows we watch on network TV anyway, but still. We also get free/reduced streaming like Netflix, Spotify, AppleTV+, Hulu, etc. through various other subscriber services ... like as a Rewards member w/Xfinity you get free Peacock, T-Mobile gives you free Netflix and Hulu (w/ads), and free AppleTV+, there's lots of other things out there which let you capitalize on current monthly-paid services to help unlock access to stuff.

I don't think enough people revisit their provider choices. I wish I hadn't procrastinated on this one for the last 18 months. I've been mulling over going full OTA for a long ass time, ever since I bought the OTA antenna back in April of 2022.

I gave up on Comcast 7 years back for not offering any good deals. TIVO was actually offered to me by them back in 2013 when they quit their joint venture. Still have my backup 2 channel OTA Premiere but it’s super slow. I only wish I got the Edge when they offered it as a 4 channel OTA recorder. Prices did not come down until they made the 2 channel version only.

I told myself the Roamio would be my last STB moving forward. My former employer is deep into the DigitalTV scene, and I had to manage their QAM/QPSK/IPTV labs, same labs I was liquidating equipment out of recently. I still keep in touch with a lot of people in that world, one of my very good friends here in town just developed a new STB for Kaon, indicated TiVo has been pivoting away from the hardware/box world and more interested in selling their core package to be dropped onto other boxes. Maybe a smart move, it's what my former employer pivoted toward also when IPTV really started skyrocketing, simply offering customers the value-add of having their own custom STB, designed from the outer shell down to the board. Was super popular in South America/Central America markets.

I wish I understood why in the hell the power bricks on the Roamio (at least the unit I have) run so damn hot and have such a penchant for frying. I thought my box was toast the first time it happened, since the lifespan on everything these days is crap. The replacement I picked up on scAmazon puked after <2yr. I ordered a replacement, identical, so I returned the old one as DOA asking for a replacement so I've got a spare on-hand.

If they only offered this back when they sold superchargers. Maybe they did and we didn’t know?

Either that, or it's been insanely lucrative and they're enjoying that sweet, sweet profit.

Can a turn signal stalk be taken apart? I want fog lights, but my plastic/markings are in better condition than anything I can find on eBay. Possible to disassemble this thing?

can’t find anything googling it, may just order one and try it.

If the dealer’s parts department can show you if individual parts for it can be ordered, their detailed parts diagrams which we don’t have would show you. They’re usually pretty good about showing you a diagram if you ask. They may even print it for you.

I can’t imagine a scenario where Toyota would have anything to do with taking apart a part that they sell as a unit for good reason. Could be wrong though.

I’ve seen for our trucks whey they sell HVAC control parts individually but in later years, sell the same part as part of a complete assembly. You might get an idea if you look at 2000 vs 2006 for the same part in case they’re similar if it MIGHT be able to be disassembled. Just a guess though.

Holy smokes! Now that's a Pinto.

There's an older guy in my neighborhood who drags out what I think is a Maverick every once in a while.

Alright fellas, time for round two. Get all your meat and veggies prepared and let's do this. Heat that fucking wok as high as it'll go then make your fried rice. I'd like to send a quick shout out to @uncleroger, @grill, and @FishNinja for this.

    20251011_192525.jpg

Throw in the shallots and garlic first.

    20251011_192729.jpg

    Then the eggies.

    20251011_193036.jpg

    Then throw in the rice.

    20251011_193435.jpg

Top with green onion and sesame seed.

    20251011_193728.jpg

OK, stir fry time. Take your marinated beef and cook it up.

    20251011_193832.jpg

    Then fry up your veggies.

    20251011_194500.jpg

    Keep frying...

    20251011_195739.jpg

    Combine the meat and veg...

    20251011_200052.jpg

Now throw the fried rice on a plate as a base then throw your stir fry on top! Enjoy!

Also got to go to Sedona last week. It was a blast. We flew so I didn’t have the tundra. I thought about renting a jeep and doing some trails, but we just ended up hiking a ton. Really pretty place. I’m glad we did stuff in town on the weekdays though. The traffic coming into town from the south on the weekend was nuts. Shoutout to @des2mtn and @FrenchToasty. I think y’all are our AZ guys.

Here's a fun one. I thought my front diff sh*t the bed. Made an awful noise while turned, but had no issues going in and out of 4hi and 4lo. Turns out at some point the front diff mount bushings worked themselves free and allowed the diff to sit on my crossmember. This also allowed the front diff move around when in 4wd. The movement allowed the front driveshaft to hit a bolt on the front diff and basically stop the truck. Bolt got halfway shaved off. Initially thinking it was a bad front diff I took it to the shop where they found the issue after pulling the actuator apart and testing function, manually engaging and disengaging the front diff, drain and fill, driving around in 4hi without the front driveshaft, replacing both CV axles (warranty thank god), and an inner tie rod while we were on the lift.

Ordered new diff mount bushings from durobumps, we're removing the diff drop kit (been holding off because the OEM parts are kinda expensive for some nuts, bolts, and washers), and seeing how she do after. Don't give me grief because the diff drop was already on the truck when I bought it lol. Unfortunately, due to timing I don't believe it's possible for me to get this all wrapped up before the trip to Merus with the TX boys.

I had a hard time justifying spending about 150 for some nuts and bolts just to get rid of it. $40 diff drop kit was cheaper....at the time lol

To be honest collateral damage isn't really there so I'm not even all that upset haha. I was waiting to drop the truck off for the timing belt and everything else to do my diff mount bushings/remove the drop kit, but I guess I'm doing it this week.

Anyone ever seen P2095 and P2097 concurrently? I'm thinking vacuum leak.

Never done a smoke test. Simple as it sounds? Any quick tips? On the faux Tundra minivan

I feel you guys wasting valuable Tundra time watching the NFL. College the superior game ;)

I can't even find an instance of P2097 or P2095 in the 2003 or 2006 FSM, which makes me think something is dubious. I thought P2095 was something you'd seen on VVTi trucks only, so I'd probably look at your cam position sensor to make sure its wires haven't been nicked behind or outside the timing cover. It passes thru a rubber plug in the driver's side timing cover, you can inspect up to the plug, then pop the plug out and potentially look at wiring inside, to an extent. It's also possible there may be a shared circuit somewhere/somehow impacting both? I'd consider clearing the codes and running along to see if they re-pop.

I cheated and snuck in a question about my 89 year old Mom's minivan. Sorry - wasn't clear:)
