I slid into a parked car 2 weeks ago and took my truck into the geico preferred shop, they said I need a new frame. The geico employee confirmed it just now.

The bumper was barely bent. That was it. Fog lights still worked and everything.

    Crazy.

That's a load of shit if it is. The car I hit was on a icy road too. So it slid with ease.

I'll look for some when I'm home. The auto body shop rep called and I didn't believe and the geico man confirmed. He said there going to do a few more test.

Will they let you take it to another shop for a second opinion? Maybe the Geico rep and body shop or buddies.

Yeah. I have a 500 dollar deductible. But I'll be dipped in shit if it does indeed need a new frame

Guys. The frames are not made out of cold rolled mild steel anymore. They are HSLA or UHSLA steel. They are about 10X stiffer than the old stuff and heating them removes the properties. Same discussion on every board.

I didn’t mention anything about heating anything or fixing a frame. No one did yet. I just asked for pics. The way he makes it sound it doesn’t sound very bad. So

Biggest problem, well maybe not the biggest, with new V6, you had to undo a engine mount, jack the motor up just to change the plugs. Forgot what side....the good old days..wait........that was on the Monza....shit... heh...heh...same shit...

I'm wondering if something got pulled away from the frame. My 2001 Ranger had minor damage but lower control arm mount failed and truck was totaled...

Yeah, and box the new frame...no more worries on fender bender bent frames. New 2021 Tundra will probably have a fully boxed frame with crumple zones for better offset crash testing. This Ford ejected the cab from the frame...who needs a frame anyway!

I hope that’s not the case. No way would I want it back. I’ve seen it happen more in rear end crashes when the trailer hitch gets smacked pretty good.

OP, you need to work directly with the body shop. Go there and talk tof them, have them show you exactly where the damage is. It's also typically better for you to choose the shop yourself and never to use the insurer's preferred shop.

Frames can be damaged pretty easily if the impact bypassed any of the crumple zones. That's why it's not always the best idea to bolt up ridged steel bumpers to a rigid steel frame.

But ya if frame is damaged consider it totaled.
