Hey everybody, I bought a new Tundra in 2019 for my wife and now am looking to buy a used one for myself so I thought I might dig into y'alls wealth of knowledge.
As the title states I'm shopping in the 15k range. Is there a certain year model that is better? Or a year model I should stay away from? I appreciate all replies and hopefully this is posted in the right place.
    Thanks

$10-15k range you’re looking at 2004-2006 DC 4wd with the 4.7L auto. Probably be able to get one with 150-250k miles on it for $10-18k depending on your location, mileage and condition. Look for frame rust. Depending on mileage timing belt should be done every 100k or so that is the biggest maintance cost.
They are pretty bullet proof otherwise.

What Tundra? Any Tundra. Well. Being in Arkansas you MUST be 1000% diligent to look for flood damage. There are still a LOT of used trucks out there that were in the 2015 (or there abouts) Texas and Florida massive floods. So be sure and do your due diligence regarding floods whichever truck you gravitate towards.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I'm in Arkansas. Seems to be quiet a few tundras here in NWA and the 4 state area and I think I can find a good one. Just didn't know if maybe there were any certain year models to stay away from.

Stay away from any that have rust, leaks and look like crap. :notsure:
05 06 are the best, newer, better front braking system, 4.7 is a VVT and usually lower miles. 05 should have a little more power than the 06. Toyota did something to the 06 that decreased HP and Tq a little. Both have more power than the 2000-2004

    No known years to avoid.

O7 to current are same drive trains & suspension. 2014 to current are newer body / interior.
Some 07-08 have 4.7's that have timing belt like 1st gens.
If 4x4 not needed, you should be able to find a 2nd gen 07-13 in that price range.

    4.6L’s and I’d avoid them.

    I see 2007-2010’s 5.7L 4x4’s depending on mileage and condition for around $15k. $12-20k

You probably won't have to go that old to be in that range. I bought my one owner 2010 SR5 CM 2WD with 215k on the 5.7 at a Toyota dealer for $13k out the door in the Dallas area last summer. Good luck!!

You can find a '07-13 with under 150k miles for $15k.

The '07-21 is basically all the same other than a different cosmetics and interior from '07-13 and '14-21.

I bought my crewmax for 15k. It was a 08 4x4 came with wheels, camper shell, amp research, flow master exhaust and the mileage was like 102k. I was looking on Craigslist everyday and I seen it so I had to jump on it and buy it cause it cheap.

‘05 to ‘06 didn’t actually have a change in power for the 4.7L, rather, the rating method changed, and the numbers with it.

The 05-6 Gen1 has to be one of the best trucks ever made. I’ll never sell mine. I will get something in 4WD when I move out of Cali, but this stays in the family.

I'm in exactly the same situation as the OP

15-16k is a tough budget. You're sidetracked with "maybe I should get a cherry 1st gen for 10k" and "oooo for only 20k look at that 2016....".

I agree with the last few posts. I'm circling 2008-2010 crewmaxs with 150-180k @ $11-14k. I might fly off the handle and get a work truck RCSB and a Prius or something, but trying to stay the course

    Good luck

I just listed old man tan for $18k. 07 156k 4x4 5.7 long bed sr5 bench column shift with added fogs, info button, heated red rock leather, lots of maintenance and a few minor OEM+ upgrades. Also awesome bi-xenon HID retrofits in new headlight housings. Located in Indiana.

Bought this 2011 TRD off-road with 180,000mi. It seems to be in good shape but has definitely been used like a truck. So far I really like it and am very impressed with how fast it is. Thanks for all the advice.

Heck, I'd sell mine for $15K. It has a some bed rust under the liner but other than that it's still solid and runs great. Only a little over 142K miles. I replaced the timing belt and the related stuff just after 136K. I've got to liking the truck but the gas mileage is killing my wallet.
