Good day! I just rolled over 100,000 miles in my 2012 SR5. The dealer quoted me over $1,200 for a complete 100,000 mile tune up. So... how difficult is it to do the spark plugs? What's all recommended to keep my truck rolling on for another 100,000 + miles? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I would really like to know what all this includes. It sounds incredibly high.

Plugs are recommended @120k, flushing or drain and fill your transmission fluid is a good start. As far as changing plugs out, I would like to know myself. $1,200 is ludicrous. Just my .02:D

Grease drive shaft u-joints. Don’t forget front shaft if 4wd.

Gotta get the wheels off the ground so you can rotate the drive shaft to get access to the zerk fittings.

Make sure you wipe dirt off fittings first.

@georgiey22 Yes, well made. No problems, I've had it on 5 + years. I changed it out along with both pulleys.

@OR18TRD, yes it's been 5 + years. So is the continental the same belt?

Good God seeing these prices makes me glad I’ve been doing peiodic fluid changes throughout my 90k. No fluids should need to changed at 100k. Spread it all out over the last 10 years so I’d be less likely to get hit with one huge service at around that time.

I'm a mechanic, at a 100K miles, this is what I would do to my truck

    Spark Plugs
    Cabin Filter/Air filter
    Serpentine belt
    Flush coolant/brake fluid/power steering
Drain and fill trans, transfer case, rear diff oil.
Grease all zerks on the driveshaft

I check all bushings, tie rods, shocks/springs and replace if necessary

Just took mine in yesterday for 100,000 miles. Oil change, flush coolant system, and grease everything up. Cost $150 give or take.

FXFormat Do you recommend the waterpump be changed when doing the serpentine belt?

I would plan to throw the water pump away at ~15 years of age if it hasn't started leaking, but for a 2012 truck I wouldn't worry about throwing it away. When you do the water pump, a new thermostat isn't a horrible idea either.

After 100,000 miles, I would also toss a spare coil pack in the glove box just in case. When one coil pack goes, use that as an excuse to do them all.

Just a point of reference. My 1997 T100 (3.4L V6) is on its FACTORY original water pump. 265K miles.

Yeah, I put a ton of mileage on my V6 4Runner's water pump also and never had a thought about replacing it. Ditto to a family member's 4.7L equipped Lexus, which had about 230K on the original water pump before they sold the vehicle. There are enough people around talking about needing a new water pump here and there that you could certainly preemptively replace it.

What all were they including in this service? I was at 90K and preparing for a drive from OK to AK pulling a TT. I did the tranny, front & rear diff, coolant flush, brake flush, and maybe even power steering. My next "big" item will be spark plugs at 120k.

Another reference. I been doing recommended maintenance and I have 420,000 miles. The valve cover gaskets are leaking just now. So I’m changing them and spark plugs since I’m already there.

at 100k, I replaced plugs, brakes, tires, shocks, trans/transfer/diff fluids changed, and flushed radiator and brake fluid. The valve covers were leaking, so I had them change those too. The shocks made a wonderful change, the rest I haven't noticed anything of course. I have pulled a 6500 lb boat/trailer long distances with this truck with no issues.

What is considered recommended maintenance? Just whatever the dealership says to do?
