Curious about the clutch setup on the first gen Tundras. I used to have an '09 FJ with 6 speed stick. It had a nasty habit of going through throwout bearings (aka : clutch release bearing) every 30k miles or so. Lots of other guys were having the same problem (as well as Tacos of that era). I sold it a couple years ago and am presently considering a nice clean low mileage (72k miles) '06 Tundra with the manual transmission. Does anyone know if this truck would have any similar issues ?

    Welcome to the forum!

A manual Tundra sounds amazing to me, even if I went through throwout bearings every 30k. Lol

I really liked my FJ but, the business with the TO Bearing was getting real old. Why would the stick be a good bet in this '06 Tundra ?

I think its more preference for me. I absolutely love manual vehicles over autos.

Yep, going back over 8 years ago, I'm the guy from the FJ Forum who convinced PDM to make that kit available for the FJ's. Originally my issue was covered under warranty by Toyo. Later, out of warranty, I installed one of these kits myself. Unfortunately after another 60k miles it started again. I sort of gave up after that. So it looks like maybe even the 1st gen Tundras were having the TO Bearing problem as well ?

I’ve got an 03 1st gen with the manual, I replaced the clutch last year at about 160k miles. Pretty sure that was the first clutch it needed too. I’ve had no other issues with the manual trans.

You should get it I love having a manual pickup

My 2wd '05 6 speed (RA60) has 185k, never been apart from the engine. 100% original clutch assembly.

I have an Aisin complete kit standing by, need to get around to it.......
