Moments after this it started downshifting violently - knocking - as soon as i pulled into the service bay at the dealer (was going to get 35s installed) the engine shut off and would not restart.

I hate that anyone has to go through a vehicle failure, as most of us rely on our vehicles to get shit done. Even worse on these newer, much higher priced trucks. I just can't believe they haven't sorted this mess yet. My dumbass keeps looking at new Seqouia's and GX's for the wife. I should know better.

WOW. This flat out sucks. Really does. I try to not comment negatively on the 3rd gen threads at all, but this is ridiculous. Sorry you got bit. This should not be happening at this point.....you'd think with the 5th model year?

Damn, @jwolfet, sorry brother. And only a few days after putting your Toyota lift on, too. Just sucks.

Sucks for OP. Even if it’s not the dreaded bearing issue, I wouldn’t be super confident in a truck that acted like he described.

Be intersting to know if it's the engine, transmission, ECU, who knows?
All that extra time in the dealership's hands, there is no telling..

Well, the OP claimed that me, and others, who complained about the Gen 3 had “manopause” and needed a “crying corner”. That was just a few months ago.

I’m truly sorry he’s eating crow, now, but karma can be a bitch.

I hope it all works out for the best for him.

Hopefully not a bearing. Could be something else of course. :fingerscrossed:

That truly sucks. For sure the Mothership should provide you a new equal trim truck.

I know the day will come when my '23 goes in for a replacement engine - which seems strange as the original runs issue free.

Roll the dice. It seems like there are no winners for us buyers.

I'm gonna drive mine until the replacement engine shits the bed - then tow it to the scrap yard and forever avoid another Totota purchase.

Sorry to hear. I'm trying to remember, but where you the one who said they were having throttle delay? I can't find that thread or post. This was something like a week or two ago.

This was the truck right when the CEL kcikedon and it started downshifting like crazy and requiring lots of pedal pressure to even maintain 30mph.

Welp, I'm done working on these V35A engines. Need break. I mean not that kind of 'break' but the other 'break!'

    Bring back the 2uz engines!

On a serious note, my condolences to those bearings. Hope you get you truck fixed with a seasoned V35A engine master/builder.
