Anticipating the unveiling of the 2024 Tacoma in a couple weeks. Curious to see drivetrain options and if Toyota ended up going with a coil rear. Teaser silhouettes seem to show a trailing arm in front of rear wheel. From what I’m reading a base turbo four and hybrid turbo four to replace the V-6 option.
Really hoping the ‘24 shares as much DNA as possible with the Hilux….

I think the coil rear is all but confirmed. Test mules were spotted with it and, like you said, the pictures show trailing arms.

There was some talk that the V6 might carry over, at least for the first year or two, but not sure. That would be unfortunate. I test drove the current gen Tacoma back to back with a GMC Canyon and the previous gen Frontier(the old 4.0L 5 speed combo) and it was so bad. Even the frontier was way better to drive.

if my understanding of the Internet is correct, they will have “dropped the ball“, “missed the mark“ and "screwed the pooch" on the next gen Tacoma. Possibly all at the same time...

4 cylinder turbo and the new 4Runner might just have the same turbo 4 cylinder as well

And the internet’s track record of calling things correctly is spotless - elections, entertainment awards, sporting events - you name it…unbelievable how accurate the web procrastinators are.

They said the new Tundra was going to be a dog if I remember right, said buyers would never go for it and said the drive train was gonna flop. I think it’s too soon to call the drivetrain/reliability- but as to buyers not going for it - clearly wrong. As popular as ever and plenty of people who love it.

Personally - not a fan of current gen Tacoma - like the gen before just for cab ergonomics. But the drive train is proven - a 4cyl turbo would appeal to many I am sure - but a good old 6 cyl in a sport level trim would be my preference.

That would be amazing, but I don't see it having a ton of available payload.
