Okay so I have a 2011 tundra 4.6L V8 2wd 142,000 miles.i recently put on a 6 inch RC lift and had it done by professionals about 3 weeks ago.I have a problem of a really bad vibration when I press on the gas and as soon as I let go it goes away. This has been happening even before I installed my lift but it has gotten a little more noticible. If I hold the gas the vibration gets worse. This has been happening for a while now usually in the speeds of 35-50 mph and under 1500 rpms. It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens at least once while accelerating to the speed limit. I have read online from other forums of people pointing towards the drive shaft and u joints and carrier bearing but mine seem to be sturdy.

So I took my truck into a driveshaft shop to see if they could identify any problems and they said the front flange is not flush with the shaft. They blame the lift and said that the lift gapped the driveshaft and they said with a rear extended driveshaft to account for the gap, the vibration would go away. The repair/replacement was estimated at 1000-1200 dollars. What confuses me is that the vibration was still there even before I added the lift. I don’t want to spend that much money and eventually it was void. I also want to add a 3” body lift so should I wait until I lift it more to extend the shaft

So I guess my question is Does lifting your truck require an extended driveshaft?

You need a carrier bearing drop.
Going without could result in shearing off your shaft. Easy fix.

Check out Camburg site, they should have some. Don’t get the one designed for a 3”, but a 6” since you have that lift on your truck.

Should take care of the problem.

    By far.

I apologize, doesn’t look like Camburg has any (thought I bought mine from them? Hmmm) just google “carrier bearing drop 6” lift tundra”

Looks like they run around 30 bucks. If I’m not mistaken, you’ll need a 1.5” bearing, or just get some from Home Depot (with longer bolts, stock bolts won’t be long enough)

I was thinking either carrier bearing drop or driveshaft spacer as well, but looks like I was late to the party. Don't stress it, easy, cheap fix and you're good as new.

A carrier bearing drop may still be necessary as well as a driveline spacer. If you go to that link I provided he explains it. 2wd is different than 4, where the driveshaft starts to pull out. You were having this vibration already so I’m not sure it’s going to completely fix that issue. But you need to address the driveshaft pulling out either way. I still suspect your carrier bearing. Get down there with a pry-bar and see if you can jiggle the driveshaft and make it move in the joint. It’s also possible that you might need to change the pinion angle on the rear end.

But since you say the vibration was there already, there is an underlying issue besides your lift.

RC makes carrier bearing drop kit, which are shims, 6 total, 3 per side, I too have a 6" kit but never had your issue, I went ahead and bought em from RC just to have the DS align

Also maybe a wheel is way off balance?....not sure that would create a "violent vibration" but would typically happen between a certain mph range.

I have all wheel balances and they are aligned. They are mud tires that have slight vibration but it’s distinct from the hard vibration I’m getting

I appreciate everyone’s help. I’m going to try out the carrier bearing kit and if that doesn’t help I’ll get the spacer . I’ll see if that fixes anything and will update. If not I might need a new driveshaft

Yea you literary unbolt the carrier bearing, insert the shins and tighten with the new bolts they supply. Thats what I read on their instruction sheet but it says 2-3 hour install. Was wondering if I’m missing something
