What will happen if i go down to 18" wheels?

    I am thinking about getting some 18" Michelin LTX's or something close to that. To smooth out ride a bit. I have all season sport Dunlaps 20"right now and they are brutal in the snow.

    From what I hear, ride quality will improve, tires will be cheaper, but the amount of panty dropping won’t change...it’s still a tundra! LOL

    More sidewall means more room to flex. So 18 will be slightly smoother ride.

    If you're going to run the 18" wheel, you might consider going with a 275/70-18. Bear in mind that by doing that you will exceed the "stay within 3%" rule. There are a few members here that are running 275/70-18 tires.

    As far as a direct change it may throw off your speedometer a little.

    As far as everything else this is what I noticed going from an '11 Tundra with 20's to '16 with 18's.

    20's look better
    20's are slightly more responsive in turn in
    18's ride better
    18's have cheaper tires
    18's balance much easier.

    I've had 20's on my old F150 and Tundra. When I got my new truck I was hell bent on going back to 18's. Haven't looked back.

    why move down to 18's when you can run 17's? As @Law323 stated above, 18's won't change the amount of pantie drops, but 17's will pay dividends. ;)Tundra wheels.jpg

    Running 315/70-17. probably could get away with 2" lift with UCA and be ok.

    You don't need to run a 35" though, you can go smaller.

    Changing Tire sizes like from 20 to 17. For cars it is 2". Messes up steering abilities and transmission.

    I went from stock 20s (same as 1794) on my 2018 trd sport to the TRD off road 18s with Michilen LTX At2 tires. The ride did indeed improve. IMG_20180307_104058_890.jpg

    I’m a big fan of 18s! In my opinion they look great in terms of wheel to tire ratio. 17s are my absolute favorite but I may Get aftermarket brakes so I wanted the extra room in there.

    Never heard of it, nor have I heard of problems going from 20’s to 17’s.

    Don’t see how that could mess up steering or transmission.

    Only thing I can see messing (or accelerating) wear is going up tire sizes in regards to outer diameter not wheel (rim) size

    Besides that, I’ve seen cars with 15’s go up to 20’s without any problems.

    Not a Tundra, but...I swapped sizes on both my 2nd and 3rd gen. Tacomas. I went from factory 17" sport wheels to the TRD Faux beadlock 16" wheels. I noticed nothing as far as handling or performance. I swapped back and forth between winter/summer.

    I just took the 20's off my new Tundra, put 18's on it rides so much smoother. The 20's felt like I was on a forklift with solid tires. I think with 33's on the 18" rims it looks great!

    I am also looking to go to the 18's on my 2019 TRD Sport. I would like to get larger than stock tires too. Are you guys replacing the spare wheel and tire? I guess this is mostly a question for those that go to bigger tires, but I was told by a tire shop that your spare needs to match size or you could f-up your diff if/when you use it. Any thoughts?
