    Hi All,

I'm finally in a position where I can afford to get a new rifle, and I am in the market for an AR. I'm no gun expert, but I own a few pistols and grew up hunting, etc. I'm really trying to find a high-quality rifle that won't break the bank, but not be cheap if I do want to play "Legos" with it.

I anticipate going to the range to shoot for fun once a week or a few times a month, take with me in the woods, and home protection.

For that reasoning, I'm looking at the Saint pistol, SIG MCX (piston driver), as well as the BCM Recce 11 KMR-A.

    https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/saint-ar-15-pistol-5-56/#ST975556FDE

    http://shop.bravocompanymfg.com/BCM...R15-w-SBA3-Brace-p/bcm-pistol-610-850-sba.htm

    https://www.sigsauer.com/store/sig-mcx-virtus-pistol.html

    Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

BCM makes good stuff but it is a bit pricey. I'm a big fan of Aero Precision and their sister company Ballistic Advantage. Either way, just about everything is swappable, so you could technically get a $400 AR and use it how you want.

I just looked at one of these today... almost bought it on the spot. Felt good in the hand.... but not a pistol... which would probably be fine.

Honestly, if you want a budget friendly AR that's still good quality I would buy a S&W M&P Sport II. I would avoid Sig. You can buy a lot better rifle for the money.

I have an extremely overpriced Sig MPX and wish I would have saved $1,000 and just built my own 9mm carbine.

Edit-I didn't realize you wanted a pistol. Have you actually shot an AR15 Pistol? I only ask because I built one thinking I would love it and it never leaves my safe. They are ungodly loud.

I built my fiance a 300 aac blackout for Christmas, it has a spikes tactical lower and not sure the rest of the parts but i built it for around $700 and i can swap the barrel to a 5.56nato barrel if she wants.

I haven't, just thinking it would be easier to handle in tight situations.

However, I really liked the way the Danielson felt in the hand....

I checked out something similar today as well. I thought it seemed like a fun gun for close range stuff.

I have a Colt M4 carbine (formally 6920) that I like. The sell one with no handguard and stock, those are the first two things I changed. I added a Daniel Defense Omega 7.0 free float drop in rail that uses the stock delta ring and dont have to remove the FSB, also a Magpul CTR stock and carry handle/sight. If I would've bought the stripped model and added the things I did I'd probably have spent what a plain weapon costs.

I'm working on my first build, a 7.5" 5.56 pistol that should be a fun banging range toy.

I have the SBR version of the BCM pistol. It’s a good shooter and worth the money.

Palmetto State Armory makes very well priced ARs. Be forewarned: you’ll mod it to death and spend double what you originally paid, so buy an inexpensive one first. Then build your second one. And third. And...

I have owned a number of AR platform firearms and built most of then from scratch. Pistols are cool cause they are small but are really garbage chambered in 5.56 in anything shorter than a 11.5". The 5.56 was designed for a longer barrel and the ballistics are just not good when the barrel is short. Not to mention they are painfully loud and the concusuon will make your range neighbors eyes blead, I know I built a 7" with a barrel that was gifted to me just for fun.

BCM and DD is great stuff, not cheap but not completely over the top. Aero precision also makes some great stuff, very nice uppers if you want to piece it together which I would encourage if your handy. You can buy a stripped lower, lower parts kit, a complete upper and put it together without any specialized tools for the most part. you can pick and choose exactlay what you want rather than replace it later and learn how the rifle actually works while doing it...and prob save a few $.

But the stamp process, making a gun trust, etc is a lot for a first time buyer. I do love my 6920 just wish I would've bought one when it had the "Restricted" roll mark on the right side, those go for a lot more than a new one assuming you can find one.

Another vote for PSA. Prices are great and the quality is solid. Recently built a pistol using one of their kits on top of a lower that's been sitting new in the box for a while. There's a lot to be said for SBR but there are also advantages to the pistol. The pistol kits with the SBA3 brace are nice and so is the price. You can always SBR it and still have the pistol while you're waiting for the stamp.

You can get a Colt 6920 for under a grand. I've seen it at $700 a few months ago, not sure what it's at now. Others are LMT, KAC, DD, Noveske, etc if you've got more money.

Getting a stamp is not a big deal. Jump through a few hoops and wait.

I'll eventually build a Mk18 and SBR it, then the want for suppressors will come.:spending:

I agree for a first rifle, the Colt 6920 is tough to beat. I love mine.

And it’s really not a big deal to get an SBR. Just takes patience.

Colt is always a solid choice. I need to get off my butt and get an SBR and suppressor. I did read that at least some of the e forms are available that may shorten the wait.

A lot of great recommendations. Truth be told, these days, a $400-$500 AR is good for most people who don’t turn thousands of rounds.

6920 (LE stamped would be great), DD, and BCM are my top 3. Most all my rifles have been bravo company builds.

If you want to have fun you can build your own and spend a ton of money 4A640103-B35F-42FA-8D33-4A10C08A3BC5.jpg73B5BDBE-D08E-4F8B-A9BF-042EA8AB2C41.jpg
