I just traded in my 2007 Tundra for the 2019 Tundra. I want to get rid of the chrome on the grill and toyota emblem. I am going to line x the bumpers and grill, but my question is if I Line X the emblem as well, will it interfere with the Sensor behind the emblem?

Yes it will interfere. System will not work. The radar sensor is very sensitive to obstructions.

Is there another solution to changing out the chrome emblem and the sensor still working?

TRD Pro Grill is about the only option that I have seen regarding changing the look.

Someone on here placed a sticker or decal over their emblem and stated that it did not create a problem with the system. I going to try the same once I find something I like to cover the emblem.

I'll search for that as well. Would you post a link to it if you find it?

Do you have the option of spraying some line-x onto something that won't adhere well (possibly wax paper or cling wrap), and then peeling it off and taping the test patch over the sensor to test it? It would probably be a pain to have to clean equipment and what not for such a small patch but could be worth it. My guess is the line-x is radar agnostic but I wouldn't place much on that hunch.

Are you guys guessing that it wont work, or you know?

It's a simple radar antenna so this would depend on if the LineX, or paint, has any metals in it. Metallic paint would for sure obstruct the signals it needs to talk between it and the black box its connected to, but if not you could get away with this.

I'd test it out with a few different materials bonded to some card stock or something you could affix in front of it for a day or so under normal driving. Then you could find out what doesn't interfere with it trying to talk with whatever is in front of it.

Not sure how the link thing works but it was a thread I started awhile back and this is one of the responses with pics. Not sure if this person is still around the forum or not but if they are hopefully that will pop in and tell if it’s still good to go.

I know that frost will cause the sensor to malfunction. Don't know about paint tho. In for answers.

F7C0BE48-0326-43E0-B574-418645B11BCB.jpgI have an 18 and my sensor is mounted in the lower portion of the surround just off center (drivers side). Over 12k miles, no issues, or problems and every system works as it should.

I'm still here and it still works fine.
I did go out wheeling with a friend over the weekend and after going through a huge mud puddle, I did start getting error notices saying the pre-collision radar was malfunctioning. It was just gloppy mud messing it up though. After I cleaned it off it worked fine again.

Oh my god. I thought it was only right to let you know I just signed up for an account here, instead of continued lurking, basically to tell you how bad a$$ your truck is. Wow. If only I had $60k! ;)

    Awesome.
Thanks for responding cause I was wondering myself if it was still good to go.
I’m still looking for that “THAT’S IT!!” Sticker. Once I find it, it’s on there.

@AZPT - Thank you. Wife also said if it were only $60k......

It’s a slow build and there’s plenty more planned.

Yeah... I thought and thought on what to add. Did't want something that was too much of a fad/short term interest, plus I wanted something that had an awesome design.

Well, I've been drinking Stone Beer as my #1 go-to (costco) for at least 12 years, and I don't plan on stopping any time soon. BOOM!!! Stone Gargoyle!!!
    That's my jam

Finally found something I like. The Harley Davidson Skull. It was the right height and filled in the emblem rather nice. Been running it for over a week now with no problem. C62C42E8-F7F3-4E6E-A50E-C72A317966F2.jpg EC57F20D-7616-413C-B598-B8272AEEA72E.jpg

I purchased a 2019 Tundra SR5 with the SX package(no badges or chrome). The shiny Toyota grill emblem was out of place. I could not find a blacked out replacement emblem that worked with the sensor system. I was nervous to paint the $300 emblem and lose my sensor(safety) and cruise functions. I followed this thread and some others from other manufacturers with similar systems and finally gambled and painted it. I masked off the emblem while it was still in the grill(I found some videos where they broke the emblem trying to remove it). I used a 3M scuff pad to prep the emblem. Tundra Frt.jpg Emblem1.jpg EmblemPaint.jpg
The final result was 3 coats of semi-gloss paint. My sensor still works! I have attached pictures. In my research I decided to avoid metallic paint. IMHO it looks much better, your mileage may vary.
