I have new Elka Coilovers trying to adjust the ride height, loosened the Allen screw on the top no set screw. And wow it is tight made one turn but it’s tight don’t want to wobble out the holes for the punch to go in. Any advice? upload_2019-1-19_21-45-12.jpg

I’m assuming the wheels are off the ground right?

Do you have the proper tool or just a punch?

They should be rather easy to adjust.

I only have the punch that was sent with the suspension. Don’t have the wrench didn’t think they would be hard to move. Maybe I just need to order the wrench?

If it’s the tool sent with the shocks, it should be fine.

This shouldn’t be very diffucult. Maybe spray some WD-40 on the threads.

I even went to Elka’s website to check if there was something I misssd.

Your photo shows mud is there any on the threads? Maybe hose them down first.

Your compressing alot of force it's going to be hard, the proper spanner wrench would make things soo much easier and wouldn't gawl the holes.

I moved it a little yesterday a inch or 2 noticed the collar where it splits is scratching the spring pulling up the metal. Going to call toytec see if they have a idea of what to do

So this has has been such a pain in the ass!!! The suspension front and back was fairly easy project to install. If I had known how hard it would be to adjust these shocks would have never bought them. Broke the tool trying to adjust them. someone tell me kings, icon, Fox aren’t this hard to adjust!! That’s what I thought that’s why I spent the money figuring I could adjust it to exactly what I want. Don’t think it will move any more so probably stuck with exactly where it is now :mad::mad:

Yikes, stop. You have the right idea with the coil compressors, but in case you didn’t, install them with the full weight of the truck on them(tires on the ground), crank them down a little, then jack it up so the wheel is off the ground. Fox and King require removal to adjust, but I have no problem adjusting both this way.

Did you install the coil spring compressors with the truck on the ground?

Sucks they dont provide s proper spanner tool for adjusting, it would be way easier to just pull them out then you can get more then a quarter turn at a time, how tundras are made you can pop them out super easyScreenshot_20190123-182155_Chrome.jpg

Well as much time as I have invested I will probably end up pulling them out and hope I get it adjusted just right?

Good luck fitting that into the shock tower on the vehicle. He has the proper tool. I have never needed anything more than the tool that broke.

So did you use a spring compressor? Before I bought the shocks watched the you tube video that icon put out. Looked super simple so I was like yeah I can do that . Nervous as hell using those spring compressors!

Put it on with the full weight on the ground and crank them, jack truck up. I would bet that I’m the only person in this thread that has adjusted single collar Tundra coilovers on the truck... It will still be difficult, and you may need to make a few different bites to get where you want. Spanner wrench is useless our trucks. This is what I made to adjust.

Something has to be messed up on mine I know if I used that it would snap right off I mean these things are tight I'm Machining one tomorrow to try. Toytec called Elka they are sending a tool to them, then to me but I'm sure that's another week out. So gonna make one try to loosen it the anti seize the threads. The is really not much spring force on the collar. But when it sets down in the spring itself it is tight as hell!

You need a punch and a piece of pipe. Spray the threads with pb blaster the night before. You can even wipe some antiseaze on the threads and back the collar up and then down, as usually once it gets moving either direction it will keep moving.

As far as asking if this is normal with other brands, yes it is a bitch with kings and fox. Whereas Icons have always been a lot easier. I havent spent anytime figuring out why though as I never have both brands on my bench at the same time.

So this is a total shit show.

    DE776489-B4FF-4DAC-8AB5-F7CE4162A4C5.jpg

You probably galled up the coil adjustment nut bad with how dirty your shock is. Hopefully you just messed up the coil adjustment nut, and not the shock cylinder.

This is what I would do:

Pull shock, and I mean just that. It sucks, I know. If you try this shit on the truck, damage to the shock or your fingers are likely.

    - Clean the shock off properly. You can’t have dirt in all the threads if you expect any kind of adjustment. From the looks of how dirty the shock is, find a nut and bolt. Lube up the bolt with anti-seize, put bolt in the dirt and sand, then try and install the nut. Wouldn’t work out well now would it?

    - pull out the coil adjustment pinch bolt all together.

    - place shock in bench vice, clamp the top cap. Use a rag to minimize scratches.

    - With a new coil adjustment nut tool or spaner wrench so you can put time torque on it. Now before attempting to loosen the nut, try and spread the CAN a little, and I mean a little bit. Then shoot some Kroil or some kind of lube all over the top of the CAN. Try and back off the CAN. It will be difficult since there’s sand and dirt inside the threads. Keep spraying lube.
Watch the top cap and shock cylinder to make sure your not unscrewing the top cap. You are under N2 pressure.

If the top cap does start to unthread, just stop. Send the shock back for a service. They might be able to save the shock with a new CAN, a shock N2 charge, and shipping.

If you lived closer, I would have you order a new CAN, pull shock, buy some buffalo trace bourbon, and save our souls together in my garage.
