If this was not a Toyota dealership I say go to the nearest one .They have plenty of rav.4s on their lot but imo they where out of line with that move they pulled . Just never go back their you will find a nice rav4 some where else.

You are looking to purchase a modern production car. When I bought my tundra I was get the run around. I asked the salesman a simple question.... Do you know what happens every minute in America? Another new tundra rolls off the line. If it was a classic GTO or rare classic? Then the seller has the upper hand. A RAV4? They make thousands of them every year.

Just common courtesy not to let someone else test drive a car you are negotiating on. The least they could’ve done was inform you someone else was interested and give you the chance to buy it at their price. If the other customer made a higher offer than you, you know they would’ve sold the car to them. The only reason she tried to get you back was because the other buyer didn’t want the car. Fuck that. You didn’t do anything wrong Michael. I would’ve done the same. Probably worse.

If you'd slashed the tires on the way off the lot I'd say let's talk about it, but by your description of what you did I think it's totally reasonable. ;)

With a new RAV4 hitting the showrooms you might be able to get a lower price on a leftover 2018.

This may or may not have been given serious consideration with regard to the ford dealership that jerked me around.

In the end I decided costing them around a dozen private sales and two fleet sales was good enough.

    when purchasing a vehicle..
one should know exactly what your willing to pay.
take a very long test drive.. say thank you, then return home.
do some more research.. let the emotion go.

go back later... maybe the next day & say

I am prepared to buy.. here is my non- negotiable offer.
don't give me any B.S..... yes or no
if the offer is reasonable they will accept.
    if no.. keep looking

In my cynical mind I’m thinking the “other couple” that was going to test drive the car were either fictitious, or staff from the dealership. Just like selling houses that have “other offers
in”, it’s an effective, albeit dirty, tactic to make the Rav seem more desirable and to get you to stop dickering. They almost got you by chasing you down in the parking lot like they needed you- lucky for you they didn’t, but I’m sure they do with a lot of others.

I'm in sales, not car sales but sales none the less. I get irritated walking onto a car lot before I even speak to anyone. There is a reason for the term "used car salesman". Most dealers dont care about you and will do anything to sell another unit, give you the hard press, and then beg for you to give them a good review. I would have lost my shit too, dont feel bad, they give me profession a bad name(generalization...). What happened to you was about as unprofessional as it gets...write a bad review online and go to another dealer. But when you do have a good experience write a good review, keep it balanced .

Years back wife and I looking at a used SUVs ended up at a high volume dealer to look at a Sequoia. Quickly got shuttled into a room to arrange for us to take home for the night. I told them I just want to test drive, not take home, we are early in our search and need to do more homework on this vehicle. All kind of reasons why we needed to it take home, great deal, going to love it, will not last long. I kept declining and wanted to leave. My wife being too tender hearted, did not want to appear rude and kept me from leaving. They then showed us another couple interested in the vehicle, and that they wanted to take it home. I told them to let them take it, we needed to leave. The sales folks kept going back and forth between us, me getting very tired of being there. A "manager" comes to visit, doesn't understand why we do not want it any longer. I polity tell them we are not interested in it any more and needed to leave, my wife starting to get tired finally got up and left with me. The sales guys on our heals all the way to our car.
That was about 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. My wife doesn't question me at dealerships anymore. :)

I have lost my cool at a few dealerships. The way I see it, if they want to play fock fock games play it with them. I have taken it all the way to the signature part and said, you know what I change my mind. Get up and walk out, only did this once. They need you more than you need them. Took me a little while to figure that out.
