Let me preface this by saying, I have never owned a Toyota in the past and never owned a truck, however I have owned an S10 Blazer and had multiple family members with GM Trucks and from a maintenance and reliability stand point they have all had great luck with them.

Most GM trucks are out of my range (for whatever reason the resale of them is higher in my neck of the woods than any other truck brand) and having driven ones that are within my budget the 2007-2013 body style, well I was not impressed. The AFM issues with those trucks has also scared me away.

Recently a clean 2016 Tundra Double Cab with the TRD Off Road package cropped up for 25K, it has 68K miles and is a Toyota Certified Vehicle. I test drove the truck and wow, that 5.7 is no joke. I have already found the cam tower leak thread, but this being a certified vehicle I doubt it has this problem. I did a little research into some of the basic maintenance tasks of the truck and am a bit overwhelmed, why would the alternator be placed towards the bottom of the vehicle? Also in general any basic maintenance task other than replacing plugs looks like it would be a bear in comparison to most of the GM trucks. Maybe they are easier to work on because they are expected to have problems and the Tundra wont? :D

Beyond that, what are some other quirks of this era of Tundra, are there any other PITA maintenance tasks that I should come to expect?

Having not had a car payment in 11 years and financing this truck for 6 I am a bit gun shy of any major costly repairs that I might come to expect.

I hope I found a decent one, a little worried about venturing out of my comfort zone into a Toyota truck and outside of my GM bubble lol

Welp, thought you should know, went up and bought the truck and I couldn't be happier. There is literally nothing that it needs immediately.

    Weathertech Floorliners, Check
    Rhino Lined Bed, Check
    Rolling Tonnaeu Cover, Check
Color brighter than the sun guaranteeing that I do not lose the truck in Walmart parking lot, Check

Even found it has some added features that I did not expect, such as the previous owner putting airbags on the rear suspension. Also found that even though the add online said it had the small tank, the dealer was able to lookup the original spec sheet and it turns out it has the large gas tank.

In the future I am thinking exhaust and possibly a good flowing reusable air filter although I kind of like how quite the truck is now.

Congrats on your new truck man. Welcome from CA. Since you bought a CPO, you’re covered for anything major for another 32k or another 4 years.
