Hey guys. Thinking about doing this mod as it will save room under the chasis. Should I install a transfer relay? Will it work? Thoughts...

I saw one of these little gas cap locker thingys that would prevent theft like this. Not sure if it will fit though. Maybe need a capless lock?

How much payload will I lose and do I need bed stiffeners?

You will exceed your payload rating (check payload on B pillar). Gasoline weighs about 6.3 lbs per gallon = 1922 lbs. A load like this will also negatively affect the handling; higher center of gravity. Having said all that, have you considered any DOT regulations? That much flammable liquid on board is crazy dangerous IMO. Just upgrade to a genuine Toyota 38 gallon tank and be safe.

I’d only fill it to 250 gallons to be safe.

Haven’t check DOT, but plan on putting in a ‘breather mod’ for gas vapor build up.

Keeping it half full is way super smart. that way you can save on all the MPGs. Plus at red lights you could alternate hitting the gas and brake to get a wave going back there, and then time the take off right so it will launch you forward on green!

I like your thinking. Maybe once I save up I’ll do the ‘baffle mod’. Breaks the tank wave backlash further helping mpg.

Fab fours premium bumpers frt & rr, retracing bed cover, 5% window tint cept frt which is 60%, has lift from dealer maybe 3 inch
And your mpg will drop drastically.

Totally. Plus that will make it that much safer!
Should be tons of insurance discounts once you do that.

Just don't tell your agent you ash your cigs out the back window. ;)

Tank is huge. Dwarfs our old Sappin wagon 1500 W/T even with an 8 foot bed.

What leaf packs are you running? Syrup seems heavier that gas. You running heater packs to help with those large pancake pours?

Nope just the stock lead pack. Ran that 425 for one season and have since swapped the truck tank to the 250 and we use the 425 at the sugar shack for storage. Sap weight just slightly more than water. About 8.2 lbs/gallon so its still quite a load for the Chevy but it does ok. Some day I may upgrade or add some super bumps

He's actually been running it most of the year with pretty good results. His MPG actually went up to a shocking 25.379. And he had enough room under the truck to carry an additional 35" tire. He's been pulled over a few times but each time he's managed to beat the charges in court. He represented himself too.

I've thought of this myself a lot in preparation for the boogaloo but I'm modifying old hot water heaters, which you can get for free and are pretty tough metal compared to 55 gallon drums or plastic tanks.

I do like those tanks though, I have a 550 gallon one under my kitchen for backup water supply. Brought it home in the back of my 93 toyota, empty of course but I bet made my truck look amazing to the people who thought it was full.

What happens when you can only pump 295 gallons and your full? Does the extra 10 gallons still get utilized to cool the fuel pump?
