    Hey everyone,

My 2014 tundra crew max has a strange vibration. It goes away for the most part at higher speeds but can be felt stronger at lower speeds. When I am slowing down at around 30 kilometres and hour (Canada stuff lol) I feel a shudder.

So far I have gotten an alignment, took off my unevenly worn KO2’s. Balanced the tires. Took my rear driveshaft from tranny back to a driveshaft shop to balance. All u joints are smooth and greased.

    Any ideas?

Does this shudder only happen when you are applying the brakes? If so.....warped front rotors "could" be the problem but does sound like it's something else.

Transmission can be in drive or neutral and the same. Using the brakes or just coasting to a stop Is the same vibration.

    Also has 3/2” spacer lift

The KO2’s are gone. I put stock tire back on, they are worn but not uneven at all and we tried them on a friends truck and no vibration.

I did put a 1/2” carrier bearing drop in and no change. However that was before the shop said that with the back wheels off the ground and someone driving it they could see the driveshaft whipping and I need to go to a drive shaft shop.
The driveshaft shop said my shaft was missing a weight and out 15 thou. They said they straightened up and balanced both shafts. When I reinstalled I did NOT put the carrier drop back in because it made no difference before (with a messed driveshaft). Should I reinstall and try?

Do 2014s have the front diff growl issue? There is a tsb on it. Feels like driving over rumble strips.

That is what it feels like when it going from 30-20 kilometres an hour.

Could it be axle shaft angle with the lift?

With a 3/2, yes I would try the carrier bearing drop. Sounds like you already have it.

I will install and try it tonight.

Also I see there can be a spacer put in that replaces the needle bearings on the driver side axle shaft where it seats in the front housing. I guess the test is to see if it disappears when in 4wd so I will try that also. Anyone ever heard of this?

I had that on my 2010. Out of warranty. Toyota wanted to replace entire front diff, which means issue could come back later. I think they wanted over $2000. Bought the non needle bearing for less than $100 and found a shop to install it for $700. Worked good. Vibration went away.

I am thinking that may be worth trying. I watched the video on the companies website and they sell a tool to pull the needle bearing but I think I will be able to build my own.

I have narrowed it down to the front of the truck and if I hover the speed in the vibration spot it feels like it’s coming from the front housing.

The driveshaft work cured the horrid rear end vibration which is nice. Now to order a bushing and give it a try. Unless anyone else has any more ideas?

I think you are looking at the site I ordered from. It looks as easy as replacing a cv axle.

I installed the carrier bearing drop and there is zero vibration now from the rear of the truck.

All the vibration is from the front. That shudder from the front is between 20-30mph. Has anyone else had to remove the needle bearing and put in the spacer? I would think that a tsb in 2008 would have caused Toyota to fix this issue before 2014?

I have read that putting the truck in 4x4 eliminates the shudder if you need the spacer sleeve. Mine stays the exact same whether it’s locked in or not.

I installed can spacer and my driveshaft angles are now in spec and still have the vibration.

At 115 kms an hour it is completely gone but below that I can feel it in the pedals, steering wheel and seat.

The front axle shafts have no play in them and in 4wd the vibration is the same.

    So far:
    CB spacer
    Balanced drive shafts
    Alignment
    Wheels balanced
    U-joints checked and greased

    Please help

Is the vibration ONLY during braking? Or will it occur when coasting at lower speed?

This exactly describes the issue I just witnessed when test-driving a 2010.

Here's the TSB, provided by a parts supplier on the internet.

Yes I did, the lift blocs in the rear that were installed when it was bought new were out in backwards so it tilted the axle down making the driveshaft angle worse. I switched those around and the vibration went away. What a tome taht was trying to figure out.
