Looking for some advice on fiberglass repair on an RV.

There was a prior repair done, and I plan on cutting this crack out, using epoxy to set new fiberglass, then this is where my thought process goes to pot.

I'm sure I use some resin to bond the two fiberglass pieces together, sand, paint, and then put graphics back on.

@DecalsByDesign and I have been in contact for a new side graphic, and it looks like this is a promising way to go.

I will upload pics from the phone to show the crack.

I was quoted 3500 min for this job and that’s not happening.

    In back corner for reference.

@AlmightyCrash did an outstanding job repairing that fender recently. And I had the idea he'd never done fiberglass before :notsure: , which makes me think he did a bit of research, applied some above- average smarts, and made it work. Maybe he could point you toward that same research...?

I hope you don't mind my tagging you, Crash. I was extremely impressed by how well you turned out your recent repair!

Thank you. I tend to read a lot about everything and am lucky enough to be able to do most anything on which I’ve educated myself. It may take me longer, but I stay very focused on details until it’s done. Autism sometimes has its advantages.

For this specifically, I’d use a heat gun first to remove vinyl and get a better look at the damage.
An important thing I’d mention is...if there was previous damage, and the same place failed again, what is causing the weak spot? Why is it repeatedly breaking? Can you remove interior paneling and brace fiberglass from the backside?
Can you countersink screws from the outside into factory interior bracing to hold it flat and then fill cracks with resin and sand it all down?

I believe the original repair was a crappy one.

Not sure on removing inside panels. Of course it can be done. Delamination is usually fixed from epoxy and bracing for 24-30 hours, from what I have seen at least.

I had a delamination on a boat a while back, similar to yours, maybe a bit smaller. Found a local boat body repair guy who fixed me up for like $200. He thought it was a mfg. defect or bad spot. The big shops wanted like $1200!

I showed your picture to my brother his first thought was if there is structural damage this crack will keep happening pretty much what @AlmightyCrash said. He did say that he would cut the break out to just beyond it and lay your fiberglass in and feather it out. Hope that helps some. Last rv he worked on a tree fell on it smashing the ac unit thru the roof

    Yea, loads of this. /\ /\ /\ /\

Our truck hoods/parts are all fiberglass.
We have repairs constantly - and if my diesel mechanics can do it, you certainly can! Lol
I would second the interior back-side, and checking to see if you can get in there. Laying a larger area of fiberglass from behind is what we do on our rigs to make the area more solid. Then more on the outside, sand/bondo/sand/primer/paint.
Ours hoods are usually chunked out from a driver rubbing up against something.

Good advice. I will see about getting at it from the interior. Sounds like the way to do it.
