SO my installer said the bed edge bent to where clamp attaches is normal unless he switches to C clamps. They told me this is the normal clamps they use and bed gets bent like that.
Can any one verify if same happened to yours? I feel like they messed up here.

    IMG_2001.jpg

Center clamp doesnt even fit over the bed and bent the crap out of my edge
    IMG_1994.jpg

Now here is the bolt top from the center they dont even go down all the way. Just looks ugly to me!
    IMG_1997.jpg

    Should I contact SnugTop?

So...they know something damages trucks and they still use said product, all the while a non-damaging part is available? Yea, that’s not normal nor acceptable. Sorry man.

I don't have a cap, but that doesn't look right. Maybe shoot those pics over to Snugtop and get their response which you can take back to the installer. Is the installer a Snugtop dealer/retailer?

A little of this and a little of that.
I’d be a little pissed! I’d have them do it right after fixing the issue

defiantly shoot snug top a couple pictures and ask if this is the quality install that they require of their dealers. Let them know that you would like to high lite the install on the tundra forum so that thousands of tundra owners can marvel at the completely mediocre install that they endorse

From the looks of it they clamped it onto the acutall lip of that bed rail. It supposed to clamp into the rail system. The guy i got my cap from the dealer screwed up that way too and bend the lips of the side rail. Ill take a pic in the am.

Mine is an ARE.....but the installer uses pretty universal hardware. Mine has clamps that bolt into the bed rails and clamps down the topper.

I have the same snug top, those clamp are made for the bed rail system, not the edge of the bed. That is the wrong clamp (actually wrong top) if you do not have the bed rail system.

Are you sure about this being a wrong top? Would other camper shell is there that is named Rebel for a non rail system. If you have any links please post here. Thank you!

Typically when you order the tops you specify with or without rails. I believe if you have rails they mold the "ears" that lets you put a vertical bolt into a clip that grabs the rails (that is what I had). If you do not the mold it straight and you use clamps (this is what my buddy had on his with no rail system).

I just submitted a form request for a new top and nothing asks me about a rail
In-fact their form is so wrong lol.

Did your dealer ever fix it? What did you do ? My dealer said this is how they install all of them.

    • I can’t really help too much without pics of the bed...my main comment was more to do with a product damaging your truck. No product should do this...

Totally understand. I am just trying to get a better understanding here. I am in talks with the dealer and Snugtop.
So I want to have the right terminology and actual facts I can present to them for leverage.

Thank you for everyones time and support on this!

To be honest if SnugTop does not support me in this. I will sell their camper shell and might switch to ARE.

I got mine off craigslist but whoever installed it (snugtop dealer) installed it wrong on that guys truck. Its supposed to hook into the bed rail like below and not the sheet metal right next to it.

I just took a closer look at mine. It does in fact appear that the top of the bed and plastic cap get pulled down toward the clamp. Or maybe it pulls the bed rail up. But either way something is getting pulled.

I contacted SnugTop and got a less then enthused warranty lady. Before even hearing my problem already telling me it is normal. After I forced her to stay on the phone with me. She said to send these pictures and she will get back to me end of day. This is after I emailed and submitted through warranty form on snugtop website 2 days ago. They never got back to me. So I just called a number on their website.

Now to circle back to the problem at hand I will have another installer reinstall the cap some time soon for sure. I will have the bed fixed. But will also continue to try and have the current seller / dealer / installer return the cost of installation and cost of my repairs. Something tells me I will not win much out of this.

But at least folks will be aware about SnugTop bad dealer training and horrible warranty support.

The top it self is GOOD quality but I must admit ARE is a far superior cap. But for the price I got this cap it is ok to deal with these issues.

    Life goes on :)

Looks like the wrong clamp as noted above--buddy with a similar topper has a clamp that goes directly to the track.

So SnugTop told me to contact my dealer. Thus followed my 1 star review on google and yelp for Snugtop.
My Dealer told me those are the only clamps and this is what they use for ALL the trucks.

    So here we are.

My next shell is ARE or LEER.
    Most likely ARE

I purchased a Snugtop Supersport back in October. Did a lot of research leading up to the big sale. Thought I bought the best topper on the market. Unfortunately, its a real POS...

The permanent/glued in side window leaks.
The front popup window leaks. It also doesn't close smoothly.
I have major leaking from both sides of my bed rails.
The rear window struts don't work very well in cold weather and the window slams open.
One of the back venting pop out windows won't stay open.

When I get the time I plan on doing a full write up with pictures on the board to help raise some awareness on the poor install job done by A&A in Denver and Snugtop's terrible customer service. I called Snugtop and spoke to Chewy multiple times. I get the feeling he/they could care less about my problems. What a waste!

    Caveat emptor...

Well My shell is not all that bad. I have no leaks thus far. Just had 2 weeks of rain. Not a drop. But I feel that ARE would back you up better

Just had a Snugtop Rebel installed on my 18 crewmax and have the exact same clamps and bed rail bending as yours, SiberianTundra. I do not have the Toyota factory tracks. Topper was installed by A&A in Denver.

The installer told me to retighten the bolts after a few hundred miles. When I did, they were pretty loose and that’s when I noticed the clamps bending the thin metal of the bed rail. I find it annoying to say the least. A simple C shaped clamp would solve the problem.

Sounds like there isn’t much to be done about it based on your experience. I must say, other than these poorly thought out clamps, I love the topper.

Yes. I actually added C Clamps as well. I do not trust these odd clamps SnugTop uses. BTW expect no help or any type of sympathy from SmugTop.

No, but it looks exactly like your pics. If I remember, I’ll take some photos tonight.

That’s a good idea - I think C clamps are in my future. I suppose I’ll see what the dealer says first. They should give me the clamps for free if nothing else.
