for you guys that are using the Hondo vent ring to mount a RAM ball for phones, etc., did you have to do any modifications to get it to fit snug?

I bought two and they dont tighten enough to keep the phones in place. I see others have posted they installed them, wondering what I am doing wrong. 2019 Tundra SR5.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Similar problem. Mine wiggles slightly in the ring and it's getting worse. Fine around the city, useless off-road. I sent Hondo a video, got a first reply that they received it but nothing after that.

I might have to take off the vent and place some rubber type of gasket in there. Not sure. Been too cold out lately to deal with it.

As is, I can't recommend the product because the vibrations are just going to get worse.

I ordered some 2.75”ID x1/16 o-rings. Maybe that will work.

That's actually a really smart idea. Do you think they will stay in position?

The o-ring worked perfect. It’s tight, no slippage at all. I am actually suprised at how solid it is, I’ll mount my tablet with no worries. I have 98 o-rings to spare. Less than $5 for 100 from Amazon.

I guess it must be a tolerance issue either with the tundra vent or the Hondo ring. Before the o-ring I mounted my iphone on a ram arm and phone mount and it would seriously just rotate 180 and wind up upside down. The whole rig would slip. But the o-ring worked perfectly

I got mine from a fellow member and mine is pretty solid.

Good to know the vent can be shimmed. Mine had a little bit of play, but since I was only mounting a phone, the device stability has been fine. Heck of a lot better than the windshield mounts.

That’s great @salmonator - I need to find some rings that size. Amazon Canada seems to have them but they are $20 for 5 pack!
