Ive been looking at your post and used it as a guide and started with the PCV. I also noticed that you were loosing oil and that was the main reason for the separator to be replaced, my truck has had the same amount of oil since day one and did not notice any oil decrease on the stick. Did you have the dealer change it out and how much was that for parts and labor? Thanks.

I believe it was 358 including labor. The job according to dealer was mostly labor due to them getting to the seperator because it sits under the intake manifold. I had it covered under warranty.

Well, unfortunately the issue is back and i guess i have not tested it as well. It seems to be blowing a light puff of smoke at start up. It happens when the truck is stated in the AM and when started going home from work. I was trying to find a part number for an oil separator and see about just buying it and replacing it myself but could not find one online. I might be wrong but it doesn't look like it has an OEM part for it and most of the searches for an aftermarket one.

That is up to par. its right in the middle of the marked notches on the dip stick.

Just called the dealer to do an oil change and service. I bought it from a GMC dealer so they did an oil change, and who knows what type of oil they used just to say they changed it. So, I hope this will give me a fresh start. There is no way a Toyota Tundra at 76K miles will start smoking like that. Thanks @MistrRoboto for the reply.

All vehicles when cold have the chance to emit some steam (white smoke) when starting. Especially in a humid environment like VA. Condensation is normal in the exhaust because a huge byproduct of the combustion process is water. I see it here in CA where the humidity is a lot lower making it harder for water to condense out of the air in the tailpipe. A small puff is nothing to be worried about. Large clouds of white smoke are a different story. If it is gone in a few seconds you really have nothing to worry about.

As much as i like the optimism and you are mostly right about the humidity in VA, this does have a bluish, burnt oil smell to it and it stays in the air for about a second or three. The dealer changed the oil to synthetic and said they did not notice any more whilst it was in the shop but i would have to leave it overnight one day and they can diagnose it further. I was leaning toward the oil consistency was not OEM and some was seeped in to the valve seals. the dealer suggested put in some seafoam at fill up and see if it goes away after the the OEM oil change.

Ive made a video, just having a hard time uploading it. I will as soon as i figure this out.

I wish that was the case here, I do not have the FFV engine on my truck.

Its under the intake on top of engine. They said the whole top of manifold comes off and its under there.

I have a 2016 5.7 FFV with 63,XXX. I have been having the same issue with the blue smoke on cold starts. I replaced the PCV and it seems that it made zero difference. still smoking. After taking to the dealer they mentioned there was no ECU flash or update for my truck. Has anyone besides Darkknight2014 had any luck with replacing the oil separator? How difficult is removing the intake and installing the oil separator?
